"A nose of raspberry, macerated strawberry, elderflower and hay, with great elegance and charm. On the palate, the fruit is sweet, suave and lively, with a lovely freshness, not to mention a creamy texture, on a slightly aniseed finish." Château Cos d'Estournel
Médoc
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
4-star rated estates (top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
The vat room, as spectacular in its kind as the pagodas of the château, equipped with vat elevators allowing gravity-fed operation not only during vinification but also during ageing, was used for the first time in 2008. It is the crowning achievement of the estate's considerable efforts to bring this cru to the highest possible level, with the ambition of rivaling the premier crus classés in quality. The deep gravelly soil generally makes it the fullest-bodied of the Médoc wines, the most voluptuous in texture, yet retaining a finesse and complexity characteristic of its neighborhood with Lafite. Recent vintages have further enhanced its aromatic purity and sincerity of expression. A highly aromatic and intense white Bordeaux is produced on the soils of La Goulée, a little further north, and bears its name.
Decanter
Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
High levels of Merlot that have clearly reached full maturity in the summer heat, narrowly avoiding tipping over into a fig character. Already approachable, it should drink well over a decade. Ripe fruits like blueberry and blackberry, hints of vanilla bean, the freshness of its location near the Gironde estuary is clear and necessary, and this is a pleasant Goulée. 2023-2036

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning connoisseurs).
About the domain :
Businessman Michel Reybier, who acquired the estate in 2000, has devoted considerable resources to ensuring that Cos d'Estournel has everything it needs to make the finest possible wine. The construction of one of the world's most efficient wineries, by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, is a case in point. Cos has always produced expressive wines with a rather exuberant style. In the early 2000s, it even sometimes tipped over into caricature, overshadowing the finesse that the terroir is capable of expressing. Things are turning around, however, and with recent vintages Cos has rediscovered an expression that once again appeals to us.

Rated wine (guide 2022) 92/100
About the wine:
This wine is rich and intense, with lots of dried berries and chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied, with firm tannins that frame the wine well. Drink now, but age well.

Yves Beck
Wine rated (guide 2021) 93/100
About the wine:
Médoc d'Estournel, respectively Goulée, comes from vineyards bought in 2003 and 2005 by Michel Reybier, who acquired Cos in 2000. The bouquet reveals itself slowly. It displays notes of blackcurrant and graphite as well as spicy nuances. The wine is tight, with tight, powerful tannins and a pleasant freshness that lends an energetic edge to the whole palate. A great success. 2024-2039
Vert de Vin
Rated wine (2020 guide) 92/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is fruity, racy, very discreetly tight, offering power, fine grain and a peppery edge. There are notes of wild blackcurrant, fresh/crisp wild berries and, more lightly, racy minerality, combined with hints of wild strawberry, crisp purple plum, Cuben/gray pepper and fine spice tips. The palate is fruity, well-balanced, with an acidic structure, well-defined freshness, tension, precision and gourmandise, a lovely finesse, suavity, airiness and purity of fruit. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy wild blackcurrant, juicy blackberry and, more lightly, crisp raspberry, combined with touches of crisp wild strawberry, racy minerality, juicy/crisp berries, as well as hints of Cuban pepper, chocolate, toastiness, fine vanilla and ripe almond. Fine, structuring tannins with a discreet mellowness. Good persistence.
