"Even in the sunniest vintages, the wines retain an admirable freshness. Mazeyres 2018 is a shining example of this, perfectly in line with this fruit-first dynamic. Already very appealing, the wine nevertheless possesses real potential for evolution". Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
3*Star rating (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
As at Fonroque (Saint-Émilion), manager Alain Moueix, a talented viticultural engineer and oenologist from a large family of Libourne winegrowers and merchants, contributes his commitment, expertise and know-how. The essential contribution of biodynamic viticulture has put the progression of this cru on an upward quality trajectory, earning it a well-deserved promotion. The resulting wines are lively and elegant. The latest vintages are proving charming.
Decanter
Rated wine (guide 2022) 91/100
About the wine:
Vibrant, vital and beautifully bright in the glass. This is a wine I once found a little heavy, beefy and rustic; it's now the antithesis of that, and its transformation is an excellent advertisement for the biodynamic winemaking practiced here. Wild, lively, bright and dynamic, it has lovely notes of fresh fruit and herbs, with intense crushed dark berry fruit - brambles, blackberries and logan berries. 2022-2028

Wine rated (guide 2023) 94/100
Domaine rated (guide 2023) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
Even in the sunniest vintages, the wines retain an admirable freshness. Mazeyres 2018 is a shining example of this, perfectly in tune with this fruit-first dynamic. Already very appealing, the wine nevertheless possesses real potential for evolution.
About the domain :
Located at the northern entrance to Libourne, this large estate is run by Alain Moueix. He applies the same viticultural philosophy as at Château Fonroque in Saint-Émilion. The vineyard was certified organic in 2015, then biodynamic in 2018. Driven to elegance and measure by the very nature of the Mazeyres terroir, the wines have reached a new level in recent vintages. We're under the spell of these harmonious Pomerols, civilized and natural at the same time, with a breathtaking finesse of flavor. It's time for our first star.
James Suckling
Wine rated (guide 2021) 92/100
About the wine:
Lovely, subtle cassis and violet aromas lead to a medium body with firm tannins and a delicate finish. Crisp. Try after 2023.
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2019 guide) 92-94/100
About the wine:
Purplish purple. Subtle, complex bouquet of fruity, spicy and refreshing notes. Hints of blueberries and milk chocolate. Lots of freshness on the palate too. Juicy, lively, with tannins in symbiosis with the structure. The tannins are fine-grained and form a beautiful ensemble with the acid structure. A wine of finesse. Well done to the Mazeyres team! 2021-2033
Vert de Vin
Rated wine (guide 2021) 96/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is fresh, elegant and complex, with a certain intensity and depth. There are notes of crisp blackberry, fresh violet and, more lightly, lilac, combined with hints of fresh/ripe blue berries, raspberry, as well as hints of varietal, gray pepper and fresh tobacco. Fresh, fruity, mineral and balanced on the palate, with a juicy/acidic structure, freshness, fine crispness, smoothness, roundness, silkiness and fine concentration. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackcurrant, fresh/crisp blackberry and, more lightly, violet, combined with touches of bright blue berries and hints of fresh/ripe raspberry, blueberry, varietal, fresh coffee and caramelization. Good length. Lingers on notes of dark berries, coffee, flowers and a hint of varietal. Good length.
Anthocyanes - Yohan Castaing
Wine rated (2020 guide) 95/100
About the wine:
Expressive nose of fresh fruit, flowers, cherry and iris. Complex yet fresh. Full-bodied, juicy, with fine tannins. Dense and fresh. Airy finish. Superb.

A hedonistic pleasure at a price that's still affordable for a Pomerol.
