"The nose is marked by black cherry, licorice, flowers, and truffle. The wine is medium-bodied, with a lush, polished, silky, and fresh palate that perfectly complements all its ripe, pure, and energetic red fruits, as well as spices. This wine has really gained depth during its barrel aging. In fact, it is on par with older vintages from the 1940s and 1950s." Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 92-93/100
Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Jean-Marie Garde, president of the Pomerol syndicate, is also the owner of Clos René. This estate is located on 12 hectares of sandy-clay soil with iron-rich subsoil. Discreet and elegant, it always shows itself to its best advantage with age, as the 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Malbec assert themselves and give complexity over the years. Appearing frail in its youth, Clos René evolves with distinction and its tannins become slender and refined. It is a good buy for lovers of fine wine. Keep in the cellar for at least ten years.

Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
Jean-Marie Garde cultivates two vineyards bordering Pomerol, with similar terroir and grape varieties (including the unusual addition of Malbec): Clos René, a former family estate known in the 18th century as "Reney," and Moulinet-Lasserre, complemented by a vineyard in Lalande (La Mission).

Vinous
Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100
Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended
About wine:
Clos René 2020 has become a powerful, structured wine, much more so than it was in the barrel. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, leather, and licorice are all amplified. This powerful, deep Pomerol certainly needs time to soften. 2025-2040
James Suckling
Wine rated (2023 guide) 93/100
About wine:
Beautiful aromas of blackberry with hints of fresh mushrooms and wildflowers. Full-bodied with fine tannins that give the wine concentration and structure. Fresh and vibrant on the finish. Very fine structure here. Very typical. Try after 2027.
Terre de Vins
Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100
About wine:
Beautiful, full fruit, direct, immediately appealing, ripe without excess, with well-integrated aging. The palate has good density and body, and the whole is easy to drink and marked by lovely bitter notes.

Anthocyanes - Yohan Castaing
Wine rated (2021 guide) 93-95/100
About wine:
Very attractive nose of graphite, licorice, slightly smoky and fresh. Elegantly fleshy and mellow on the palate, well-structured with volume and, above all, freshness. Very attractive, structuring tannins without being firm. Great potential for an estate that validates the efforts of previous years.
