"An unforgettable bottle rated 100/1000 "
"Surpassing the 2019 and rivaling the 2016 as this estate's best vintage in recent decades, the 2020 Château Montrose is a monument in the making. With aromas of violets, black fruits, licorice, loamy soil, black truffle and subtle spices, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a seamless, elegantly muscular profile, terrific purity and energy, wonderfully powdered tannins and a long, resonant finish. It's 13.7% alcohol, like the superb 2009, but it's even deeper, more vibrant and more complex than the latter. It's well worth seeking out, and confirms Montrose's status as one of the Médoc's leading contemporary estates and as a premier cru" (Wine Advocate 2023) - Wooden case delivery available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)
About the domain :
For over a century, the estate belonged to the Charmolüe family (now based in Provence, at Château Romanin). Bought in 2005 by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, the cru has continued on its path of excellence. The new owners and their teams have been careful not to modify the style, but to perfect viticulture and vinification to adapt them to the ecological and cultural demands of our time. The second wine dame-de-montrose, produced in appreciable volume, has progressed in regularity and expression of terroir. The latest vintages, at the top of the Médoc, are more than a match for the premier crus classés.

Wine rated (guide 2024) 2*Coup de Coeur (Outstanding wine)
About the wine:
The 2020 is certainly a great Montrose. A dense, deep Saint-Estèphe, with a delicate bouquet of violets, black fruits (black cherry, plum, blackcurrant), sweet spices and menthol. The palate combines power, softness, finesse, freshness and length in perfect harmony. Elegance itself, and in the end, a sensation of great purity. 2028-2036

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning connoisseurs).
About the domain :
Entrepreneurs Martin and Olivier Bouygues have owned this famous classified growth since 2006. They make the most of one of the Médoc's finest terroirs, which on numerous occasions in the past has distinguished itself by producing wines that can reach, or even surpass, the level of the premier grands crus classés. When the year is hot and dry, as was the case in 2003, 2009, 2010 or even 2011, Montrose offers an extraordinary distinction. Hervé Berland, who now runs the estate, takes it to a level of definition and precision never before seen here. He's closing in on a third star.

Rated wine (guide 2022) 99/100 (Antonio Galloni)
About the wine:
Château Montrose 2020 is epic. Dark, rich and ominous, the 2020 possesses remarkable intensity, without being excessively heavy. Time in the glass brings out the wine's more elegant, sophisticated side. All the elements are so well balanced. Red and purplish fruits, lavender, rose petals, gravel and spices are all accentuated by veins of intense minerality that give them shape and energy. The 2020 is a modern classic for Montrose and one of the greatest wines of the Left Bank. 2030-2070
James Suckling
Wine rated (guide 2023 ) 99/100
About the wine:
The nose is really fantastic on lead pencil shavings, iron shavings, blackcurrant and lavender. Full-bodied to medium-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins that extend throughout the wine's length. Wonderful perseverance and personality. Juicy, savory finish. Always classy and sophisticated at the end. Organically grown grapes. Best after 2028.
Yves Beck
Rated wine (guide 2022 ) 99/100
About the wine:
La Dame de Montrose already announced it, and Grand Vin confirms it. It doesn't want to reveal itself right from the start, preferring to adjust the brightness of the stage to display itself in the ideal way once the curtain is raised. The way it reveals itself with precision, relevance and serenity is impressive. Before the fruit, graphite nuances mark the bouquet, while the palate reveals its depth and power. The wine is brilliantly consistent, persistent and vigorous. It will go far, very far. 2028-2045
The Wine Cellar Insider - Jeff Leve
Wine rated (guide 2023 ) 99/100
About the wine:
This wine is quite exceptional and could reach triple digits in a few years if it continues to develop. Inky black in color, the wine explodes aromatically with blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries and tobacco, before reaching its deeper nuances of Indian spices, chocolate and cigar box scents. But the real fireworks come when the wine coats your palate with its multiple layers of dark red fruits, blackberries and cocoa. For all its richness, the wine has good staying power, making it easy to get lost in all its depth and concentration. The wine is almost seamless on the palate, lingering, building and developing for nearly 60 seconds. One of Montrose's greatest vintages, this is Hervé Berland's swan song at the helm. Drink between 2029 and 2065.
