Château Tronquoy-Lalande
Saint-Estèphe
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 17.5/20 (Reference wine)
Domain rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the wine:
Superb, powerful nose, very fruity, with notes of liquorice, green tea and cedar, dense, charming and warm on the palate, with massive but very harmonious tannins, great length and freshness. Great potential.
About the domain :
After many years at Château Mouton-Rothschild, Hervé Berland is now in charge of the two properties acquired by Martin and Olivier Bouygues. Less well known than Montrose, Château Tronquoy Lalande, a discreet 18-hectare estate in Saint-Estèphe, is one of the oldest vineyards in the appellation. The wines produced here are splendid.

Rated (2019 guide) 15.5/20 (Good wine)
Domain rated (guide 2022) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the wine:
The 2014 opens gently, with a straight edge, but also lovely charming fruitiness and a sapid finish.
About the domain :
Martin and Olivier Bouygues acquired Tronquoy-Lalande in 2006, a few months after buying Château Montrose, located a stone's throw away. This very old Saint-Estèphe cru retains its autonomy and style. The management of the château, like that of Montrose, was taken over in 2012 by Hervé Berland. Note the recent production of a beautifully crafted, round and seductive white. They represent excellent bargains.

About the wine:
Just as expressive in bottle as in barrel, the 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande is superb. Black cherry, plum gravel, smoke, savory herbs, licorice and expressive floral notes abound in a deeply textured deeply textured Saint Estèphe that drinks well with minimal cellaring. The soft, textured finish only adds to the wine's to the wine's considerable appeal. Drink this supple, expressive Saint Estèphe over the next 15-20 years or more. or longer. This is a stellar demonstration. The blend is 56% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc. Tasted three times. Tasting period to be considered: 2019-2034.

About the wine:
Another great, dark Saint-Estèphe, which despite the rich body and some noticeable alcohol, has a fresh, minty note. Slightly sweet finish despite all the tannins. The spiciness comes through at the end. Drink in 2020.
