Branaire-Ducru Castle
Château Branaire-Ducru is located in the center of the Médoc region, in the commune of Saint-Julien, forty kilometers from Bordeaux, between Margaux and Pauillac. The fifty hectares of Château Branaire-Ducru's vineyard are spread over several plots, along an east-west axis, in the southern part of the appellation. The soils and subsoils of Château Branaire-Ducru are composed of gravelly-siliceous alluvial deposits from the Quaternary period. These terroirs, considered the warmest in the region, allow Cabernet Sauvignon and later-ripening varieties such as Petit Verdot to mature perfectly. Château Branaire-Ducru has a particularly old vineyard, with many plots dating back around fifty years and some even a century old.

It is from these venerable vines that Château Branaire-Ducru's Grand Cru is made, while Duluc, the second wine, comes from the estate's younger vines. The grape varieties are traditional. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc dominate with 74 percent of the area, Merlot accounts for 22 percent and Petit Verdot 4 percent.
