Clos du Marquis
Owned by the Delon family, the Clos du Marquis is a historic
brand in the Médoc Saint-Julien created in 1902. Its origins lie in the "Petit
Clos" adjoining the Château de Léoville, home of the
Marquis de Las Cases. Long considered the second wine of Léoville Las Case, Clos du Marquis is now a cru in its own right. The vineyard comes from
terroirs of theSaint-Julien appellation which
were not part of the cadastre of the former Domaine de
Léoville. These terroirs, which are physically separate from those of Las
Cases, are located slightly further west and are surrounded by
prestigious Seconds Crus Classés. The Clos du Marquis
perfectly expresses the typicity of great Saint-Julien: structure, complexity, harmony, balance,
distinction and ageing potential. Château Léoville Las
Cases therefore comprises two properties with distinct
distinct terroir characteristics and consequently produces
two first wines with different tastes, despite their obvious
an obvious filiation.
