Rieussec Castle
Classified as a Premier Cru Classé of Sauternes and Barsac in 1855, Château Rieussec is now part of the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) group and benefits from the utmost care both in the vineyard and in the cellar to produce one of the appellation's benchmark wines.

Adjacent to Château d'Yquem, Château Rieussec is one of the largest estates in Sauternes and Barsac, with a vineyard covering 93 hectares of sandy-clay gravel soil. The Sémillon grape variety dominates (90%), alongside Sauvignon and Muscadelle. In keeping with Sauternes tradition, the utmost care is taken and the harvest is carried out in several successive stages depending on the ripeness of the grapes and the development of botrytis (noble rot).

The Château Rieussec cellars are located in Fargues, in the heart of the vineyard. Each vintage is aged in oak barrels from the Tonnellerie des Domaines, half of which are renewed each year. Barrel aging varies from 16 to 26 months depending on the vintage, during which time the wines are periodically racked and bottled at the Château.
