"A timeless Domaines Barons de Rothschild".
"The pure, candied apricot nose of Carmes de Rieussec announces a fresh, ripe liqueur. A very smooth Sauternes, with a slightly sticky sensation. The finish is lively, with notes of candied lemon". (Le Guide de la Revue du Vin de France 2021) - A fine achievement for a 2nd wine, which will be a real pleasure to drink!

Tasting & pairing
Eye
Beautiful golden colour with sparkle
Nose
It's already surprisingly delicate. The barrel ageing is still present, but blends perfectly with the notes of apricot and candied melon.
Mouth
Light attack, then the wine takes on good amplitude to gradually fill the whole mouth. Not marked by the often excessive heat of the vintage. The finish is long and precise.

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
Rieussec, one of the jewels in the crown of the Rothschild estates, sometimes suffers unfairly from the commercial policy of its distribution, which overshadows the nobility of its terroir adjacent to Yquem and the perfectionism of its production. The wine impresses with its power and richness without lacking in freshness, thanks to exemplary technical mastery of bottling. The remarkable ageing of the 1988, 1989 and 1990 should silence any criticism. The second Carmes wine is no demagoguery, displaying all the richness expected from this type of soil, with more rapid development in bottle.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2020) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
Formerly the estate of the Carmes de Langon convent, Ch. Rieussec is established on an elevated position to the west of the commune of Fargues, of which it is the only 1er cru. Its square tower dominates a gravelly hilltop at the same height as its immediate neighbor, Yquem. Its well-established reputation earned it the rank of 1er cru classé in 1855. The estate passed through a succession of owners until 1984, when it was purchased by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite in Pauillac). This acquisition brought significant technical, financial and human resources to this vast 90-hectare unit, 72 of which are vineyards.

Domaine noté (guide 2021) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
Pale lemon gold in color, Carmes de Rieussec 2018 is a little youthful and muted at first, hinting at scents of lemon meringue pie, lime cordial and beeswax, with touches of baked bread and marzipan. The palate is attractively rich, packed with layers of citrus and spice, with a long, honeyed finish.

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
Carmes de Rieussec's pure, candied apricot nose announces a fresh, ripe liqueur. A very smooth Sauternes, with a slightly sticky sensation. The finish is lively, with notes of candied lemon.
About the domain :
A Premier Cru Classé located in the commune of Fargues, Rieussec has always displayed a singular personality, with wines that are sometimes very powerful and rich in liqueur. When the wines are young, the noble rot takes on slightly less delicate aromas than elsewhere, but ageing compensates for this with beautiful liqueur-like flavors. While Rieussec may have disappointed in high-yield vintages, the level has been adjusted in more recent vintages. The 2013 and 2015 vintages vigorously express a fresher, more delicate style. A progression to follow closely.
James Suckling
Rated wine (2019 guide) 90-91/100
About the wine:
A lovely second wine from Rieussec with a creamy character of baked pear and apple. A little soufflé, too. Medium-bodied, moderately sweet, with a fresh finish.
Jean-Marc Quarin
Rated wine (guide 2021) 89/100
About the wine:
Pale, brilliant color. Intense, fruity, subtle and creamy nose. Melt-in-your-mouth mouthfeel, with a graceful touch. Slightly thicker persistence, with a touch of bitterness. Normal length.
