Bettane & Desseauve
"One of the finest Sauternes with tremendous power and exemplary purity of fruit!"
"The château's square tower dominates a gravelly hilltop at the same height as its immediate neighbor, Yquem. Needless to say, the estate enjoys an exceptional terroir; for proof, just taste this remarkable 2007. Light in color, it develops a fine, powerful bouquet combining ripe grapes, apricot, broom and cinnamon with a touch of balsamic. Silky, round and rich, the palate finds its balance between liqueur and fresh menthol notes. Pair with veal chuck braised with orange and star anise". (Le Guide Hachette 2011) - Delivery in wooden cases possible for orders of 12 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).

Intense wildflower notes. Hints of candied fruit, citrus and melon.

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 96/100
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
Great character, magnificent generosity of constitution, fruit of exemplary purity, long follow-through, a classic of the vintage. Drink before 2037
About the domain :
Rieussec, one of the jewels in the crown of the Rothschild estates, sometimes suffers unfairly from the commercial policy of its distribution, which overshadows the nobility of its terroir adjacent to Yquem and the perfectionism of its production. The wine impresses with its power and richness without lacking in freshness, thanks to exemplary technical mastery of bottling. The remarkable ageing of the 1988, 1989 and 1990 should silence any criticism. The second Carmes wine is no demagoguery, displaying all the richness expected from this type of soil, with more rapid development in bottle.

Wine rated (2008 guide) 19/20
About the wine:
For several years now, Rieussec has regularly featured among the region's top 3 or 4 wines, and this one is no exception. This 2007 shows tremendous power, combined with freshness and length. This is without doubt a great bottle.

About the domain :
Formerly the estate of the Carmes de Langon convent, Ch. Rieussec is established on an elevated position to the west of the commune of Fargues, of which it is the only 1er cru. Its square tower dominates a gravelly hilltop at the same height as its immediate neighbor, Yquem. Its well-established reputation earned it the rank of 1er cru classé in 1855. The estate passed through a succession of owners until 1984, when it was purchased by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite in Pauillac). This acquisition brought significant technical, financial and human resources to this vast 90-hectare unit, 72 of which are vineyards.

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
A Premier Cru Classé located in the commune of Fargues, Rieussec has always displayed a singular personality, with wines that are sometimes very powerful and rich in liqueur. When the wines are young, the noble rot takes on slightly less delicate aromas than elsewhere, but ageing compensates for this with beautiful liqueur-like flavors. While Rieussec may have disappointed in high-yield vintages, the level has been adjusted in more recent vintages. The 2013 and 2015 vintages vigorously express a fresher, more delicate style. A progression to follow closely.

About the wine:
Intense and richly sweet, this wine is also well-balanced, with botrytis and baked apple acidity standing out. This essential dryness gives the wine a dense core and ageing potential. A high proportion of Semillon adds weight on the finish. Drink from 2020. - Roger Voss

Wine rated (2008 guide) 19/20
About the wine:
Sweet, vaguely sticky nose. Impressive sugar content! And there's a tasty, appealing background that keeps it from being sickly. Lots going on. Long. Very long. It has what a good Condrieu has: a subtext.
