Gault Millau 94/100, RVF 9/10, Burghound 90/100, Guide Hachette 1 Star
The scorching 2003 vintage produced wines in Burgundy that are extremely rich, dense, and full-bodied, such as this Château de la Tour Clos-Vougeot Grand Cru, with its ripe nose of almost candied plum and blackcurrant. Its round, full-bodied and complex palate, rich in flavor, its high-quality tannins and superbly long finish demonstrate the care taken in aging and the fine balance of wood. A lovely 2003, very ripe, superbly balanced and endowed with a beautiful freshness. A fine reference in the vintage.

Rated estate (2012 guide) 6 stars (Exceptional production)

About the estate:

The only winery producing its own wine in the Clos, Château de la Tour is also the largest landowner with 6 hectares located in its upper part. The château was built in 1890 by the family's ancestors. The current owners are two sisters, Jacqueline Labet and Nicole Delechette, and the estate has been managed since 1986 by François, Jacqueline's son. In the 1970s and early 1980s, the wine was of little interest. It took the young François Labet to call on Guy Accad to produce remarkable wines, such as in 1987. After Guy Accad left, the estate continued to progress with the help of Jean-Pierre Confuron.

Rated estate (2011 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

This château is the only one located in the Clos de Vougeot, of which it is also the main owner. The estate began bottling in the 1930s. Having fallen sharply in quality in the 1970s and early 1980s, it rose sharply in quality when the young François Labet called on Guy Accad. Produced with the help of Sylvain Pataille since the 2009 vintage, the wine is now at its highest level. The vinification of whole grapes and aging in partially new barrels result in a high-quality product, on par with the greatest wines."
