Clos de Vougeot
Founded around 1110 by the nearby abbey of Cîteaux, which retained ownership until 1789, Clos de Vougeot is the very image of Burgundy. Covering 50 hectares in a single block, it is still surrounded by the same walls that surrounded it 5 centuries ago. Its wine is one of the leading figures among the red grands crus. Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru wines are red wines made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes. The Clos de Vougeot vines are planted on a shallow, gravelly soil with an abundance of gravel on the Bajocian limestone slab. In the middle (around 250 meters), the soil is shallow brown over limestone pebbles, and more clayey. In the lower part, the soil is marly, rich in clay and fine silt.
Crus d'excellence, Clos de Vougeot wines are the focus of much attention, notably at Chanson Père et Fils, Domaine Leroy, Château de la Tour, Domaine Méo-Camuzet and Domaine Joseph Drouhin.

"Jadot is one of 80 owners of tiny parcels in this five-acre walled vineyard. This wine is characterized as much by its rich, generous opulence as by its structure. "Dive into this river of perfectly ripe black fruits and this immense set of very fine tannins. So much vitality, despite the concentration of the full-bodied but certainly not opulent. Clove and cardamom on the very expressive, long finish. To drink or to keep. (James Suckling 2022)

"A richness of wet earth notes and an array of red and black cherries, as well as a slightly smoky hint. The palate is beautifully mellow and long, offering a very striking range of juicy, rich, sweet cherries that remain pure and fresh. The silky tannins have the last word. Grand Vougeot. Try from 2022" (James Suckling 2019).

"Vigne du haut in this vintage, refined and complex, perfectly typified haut du clos, close in texture to a grand Echezeaux, but in this vintage the best Côte de Beaune wines have more charm and identical longevity". (Le Guide des Vins Bettane & Desseauve) A renowned Grand Cru, Clos Vougeot was born in 1110, when Cistercian monks began to receive donations of land from the village of Vougeot. Vougeot, which they quickly transformed into vineyards and kept until the the French Revolution. Today, some 80 owners share this prestigious of 50 hectares. A historic cru.

"Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. Louis Jadot's Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot 2012 has a lifted, licorice-tinged, ample bouquet. The medium-bodied palate is composed of soft tannins, dense black fruits with a structured finish that doesn't quite bring the complexity suggested by the aromas at first, but with aeration it reveals subtle nuances and fine minerality. This is a great success for winemaker Frédéric Barnier and his team." (Wine Advocate 2015 - Neal Martin) Delivery in wooden case for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery method).
René Bouvier - Clos de Vougeot 2013
15,5/20 RVF
The old vines of Pinot Noir give, on the terroir of Clos Vougeot, an elegant and racy wine. With time, it takes on the velvet touch of Vosne-Romanée wines and the finesse of the Chambolle-Musigny wines. The finish of liquorice and white pepper signs the greatness of this historical climat.
Domaine Jacques Prieur - Clos de Vougeot 2013
89/100 Robert Parker
-
16,5/20 Bettane & Desseauve
"Jacques Prieur's Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2013 presents a nicely defined bouquet, the woodiness gracefully embroidered in raspberry and forest fruit, even a slight scent of lavender makes an appearance after a few minutes. The palate is medium-bodied, with chewy tannins on the attack. It's balanced and edgy towards the finish, with a lingering hint of spice. Good." (Wine Advocate 2015 - Robert Parker)
Chanson Père & Fils - Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2010
5/5 (1 review)
The vineyard is ideally located in the heart of the famous Clos de Vougeot, close to the Château. A great bottle with intense aromas of black fruits and toasty notes mingled with spices. A powerful, complex, well-structured wine, with a chiselled texture and elegant oak. An exceptional bottle...

"More serious and racy, the Vieilles Vignes is on the reserve; the material appears deeper, slightly more austere, but with that extra grace and complexity linked to the very old vines, which give here a wine cut out for great ageing." (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2011 - RVF)

Château de la Tour is the most important estate in Clos-Vougeot, a Très Grand de Bourgogne! "Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2008 offers generous fruit. The wine is very silky and supple, and is explosive in its aromas with soft flesh on the palate." (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2011 - RVF)
