Musigny

Musigny
A 1 hectare vineyard, the appellation Musigny Grand Cru is located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, in the commune of Chambolle-Musigny, just above Clos de Vougeot.
Identified as a place called "Musigny" in the 11th century among the possessions of the monks of Citeaux, it was then recognized as a "cru" around the 15th century. It wasn't until 1929 that the Dijon civil court defined the Musigny appellation d'origine, which was subsequently designated as an AOC by decree in 1936.

This is a rocky, limestone terrace on a fairly steep hillside. Musigny 's soils are shallow and generally more clayey and less chalky than neighboring Grands Crus. Planted mainly with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Grand Cru Musigny is shared between 7 producers, including Maison Joseph Drouhin, Domaine Drouhin Laroze, Maison Louis Jadot and Domaine Jacques Prieur.

Domaine Jacques Prieur - Musigny Grand Cru 2011

95/100 Robert Parker

"Jacques Prieur's Musigny 2011 shows more red fruit on the nose than on the other Chambolle Amoureuses and Musigny 2011s, which show more blue fruit. It's nicely defined, perhaps a little earthier than its peers, with a hint of meatiness developing in the glass, followed by wild heather and broom. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple, ripe, quite toasty tannins. There's impressive depth here, even if not quite finesse on the finish. Still, this is a very fine wine, and here tasted blind, it outshines some of the biggest names." (Wine Advocate 2014 - Robert Parker)
