Domaine Françoise and Denis Clair - Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru La Garenne 2014

Domaine Françoise et Denis Clair - Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne 2014

16/20

RVF

(Notes from the 2013 vintage)

Located at the top of the hillside, in the "La Garenne" climat, this Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru develops rich and complex aromas on the nose and palate. Aging for over a year in barrels does not detract from its freshness; in fact, it enhances the long finish associated with old Chardonnay vines.

Rated estate (2016 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

A close-knit family, generous hearts, an innate taste for the right flavor, beautiful vineyards on the best terroirs of Saint-Aubin and Santenay—all this explains the estate's consistent success over the past twenty years. The white wines of Saint-Aubin are certainly among the best value for money in Burgundy.

Wine rating (2016 guide) 16/20 (2013 vintage) (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2016 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Jean-Baptiste Clair, 36, joined his father in 2000 and has expanded the family estate, which now covers 15 hectares in Saint-Aubin and Santenay. "My training as a white wine maker complements that of my father, who had already mastered red wines in the 1980s," he explains. Their great terroirs in Saint-Aubin (En Remilly, Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, Sur Gamay, etc.) combine notes of sweet chalk, maturity, and density without losing the freshness that is the hallmark of Saint-Aubin. The whites are fine and crystalline. The reds are among the most appealing in Santenay. The Clair family was among the first to understand the advantages of cooling grapes to extract their maximum aromatic potential. The grapes are harvested from premier cru terroirs.
