Created in 1986, the Domaine Françoise et Denis Clair covers 5 hectares, planted exclusively with Pinot Noir in the commune of Santenay. A winegrower for several generations, Denis Clair inherited plots of land from his family.

Over the years, Domaine Françoise et Denis Clair has expanded with the purchase and lease of several parcels of Chardonnay, mainly in the commune of Saint-Aubin, where Françoise Clair is originally from and where the winery is located.

Today, the vineyard covers 15 hectares (65% red - 35% white). Since 2000, Jean-Baptiste, the son, has been working on the estate, and together they have created a small trading structure to further expand the range of wines produced.

Almost all the production is vinified and bottled, i.e. around 75,000 bottles a year. The Domaine Françoise et Denis Clair strives year after year to improve the quality of the wines it produces, and is regularly cited in various specialized guides and magazines (Bettane et Desseauve, Revue des Vins de France, Guide Hachette des vins, Bourgogne Aujourd'hui, etc.).

"Clos de Tavannes shares with the great Cabernets sur tuffeau of Bourgueil a tannic allonge as fresh as it is spicy." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2016 - RVF) It's in a fruity, cherry register that this Santenay 1er Cru reveals itself. Similar to Chassagne-Montrachet's 1er Cru Morgeot, it has great complexity and remarkable length.
