"A singular terroir to delight every taste bud!
"The palate is well balanced, with a touch of dry honey and ginger on the entry. The Viré-Clessé is quite complex, with a clear line of acidity running through the waxy finish. There's a hint of muscat on the finish. This is a great wine that should age well over the next 12 to 15 years." (Vinous 2023).

Domain du Mont Épin
Viré-Clessé
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2021 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
Domaine du Mont Épin is the second estate of brothers Richard and Stéphane Martin, of Croix Sénaillet de Davayé, acquired in 2015 and whose vines are located around Mont Épin. It comprises 15 hectares divided into four terroirs and two appellations, Mâcon-Péronne (seven hectares) and Viré-Clessé. The estate is converting to organic farming to maintain the same philosophy as Davayé, and the wines come in two cuvées for Péronne and two for Viré-Clessé, with a rather charming style thanks to ripe harvests. Perfect for gastronomy.

About the wine:
Viré-Clessé Breillonde 2022 is aged two-thirds in demi-muids and the rest in stainless steel. The bouquet of this wine is slightly fresher and more mischievous than that of the ordinary Viré-Clessé. There's a little reserve here, so it will need a little more coaxing. The palate is well balanced, with a touch of dry honey and ginger on the entry. The Viré-Clessé is quite complex, with a clear line of acidity running through the waxy finish. There's a hint of muscat on the finish. This is a great wine that should age well over the next 12 to 15 years.
