Wine rated (guide 2022) 98/100

About the wine:

An intensely perfumed, seductive nose of rose petals and violets. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, very open with dark chocolate, cherries and sweet, fragrant blackcurrant. Satiny tannins effortlessly support the flavors. There's real drive and persistence in this fresh, youthful, lively wine, with a vibrant juiciness that's so appealing. No element is too dominant, the wine is harmonious and balanced with excellent acidity and a long, minty, herbal finish with hints of tobacco and dark chocolate. A classic Opus with fullness, finesse and energy. Harvest took place on September 10, 10 days earlier than average, and lasted 4 weeks. 2024 - 2045

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

Scored (guide 2021) 97-99/100 (Extraordinary wine)

About the wine:

Winemaker Michael Silacci commented that blends were usually completed in January or February after the vintage. This year, he was still fine-tuning the 2019 blend, but mentioned that it was "pretty close to the final blend. "Deep garnet-purple in color, Opus One 2019 bursts from the glass with notes of Black Forest cake, Morello cherries, blackberries and fresh cassis, plus touches of licorice, faded roses, Sichuan pepper and iron ore. Full-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy black, blue and red fruits, framed by velvety tannins and a fresh backbone. The wine finishes on a convincing earthy/mineral note. Tasted as a barrel sample, this is a truly magnificent Opus One in the making!

Rated (guide 2022) 95/100 (Exceptional wine)

About the wine:

Elegantly styled, despite its heavy weight, the wine offers a blend of seductive blackberry, Morello cherry and blackcurrant notes, with a slightly warm edge, while flashes of applewood, bay leaf and red tea sparkle on the rim. Very refined to the touch, with a seamless structure that extends the finish so the fruit can linger. Drink now through 2038.

Vinous A. Galloni

Vinous A. Galloni

Rated wine (guide 2021) 97/100

About the wine:

Opus One 2019 is dense, beautifully layered and quite restrained, which should serve it well over time. Tasted alongside the 2018, the 2019 has a little more nuance of texture and body, but has all the classicism that is Opus One's signature. Vibrant floral accents linger on the sublime finish. 2029 - 2049
