Louis Roederer Champagne
In 1833, Louis Roederer inherited the Champagne House. A winegrower first and foremost, he decided to expand the family vineyard by carefully purchasing plots of land in the grand cru areas. By 1850, he had acquired nearly 100 hectares.
His successor, Louis Roederer II, continued this work and further enriched the family's heritage. From 1870 onwards, Louis Roederer Champagnes were exported , notably to Russia, where Tsar Alexander II became a customer. In 1876, Louis Roederer created the famous Cristal cuvée especially for the Tsar.

It was not until the 1920s, when Léon Orly Roederer took over the house, that the desire to create a regular cuvée, without a vintage, emerged with the first sketches of Brut Premier.

Today, Maison Louis Roederer remains a family business, run by Frédéric Rouzaud, a descendant of Louis Roederer. It owns 240 hectares of vineyards, comprising 420 plots, located exclusively in the premier and grand cru areas of the Marne.
