Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2024 guide) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)
About the domain :
Founded in Reims in 1776, it is one of the few major Champagne houses still owned by the founding family. It was the first to invest in natural vineyard care and environmental awareness. The result is a heritage of exceptional sincerity, driven by a vision of the future that commands respect. 126 hectares of Louis Roederer's 242 hectares are managed biodynamically, the rest are HVE and VDC certified. Frédéric Rouzaud, 7th generation of the family line, continues this incredible ascent. Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon, eminent cellar master, never ceases to impress with the wines he produces. In constant research, in the vineyard, in the vat room and in the cellar, he continues his quest for excellence with the determination to share it with all the wines. A model and an inspiration.
Decanter
Wine rated (2023 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
A pure, crystalline nose, full of bright lemon, chamomile, green apple and sweet honeysuckle. Crisp and dry, with racy acidity and tiny bubbles that immediately lift the palate. The palate is mouthwatering but light, and the texture is so fine that it ends on a chalky, long and gently salty finish. It makes you want to have another glass immediately. A perfect aperitif wine, still full of juice and fruit flavors, yet crisp and totally refreshing. Most of this blend comes from the 2018 vintage.

Domain Rated Award-winning wines (Wines from this producer regularly win awards in the guide)
About the domain :
A house born in Reims in 1776. Louis Roederer became owner in 1833, expanded the business and acquired vineyards. In the 1870s, the house, which delivers 2.5 million bottles, has as its main customer Russia, where Tsar Alexander II asks Louis Roederer to create a prestigious champagne: the famous Cuvée Cristal is launched (1876). With 240 hectares of vineyards (1er cru and grand cru) accounting for 2/3 of its supplies, the company is still run by the descendants of its founders. The latest, Frédéric Rouzaud, now heads a group that owns Champagnes Deutz and numerous prestige crus, from the Médoc to Provence, from Portugal to California.
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Rated (guide 2022) 92/100 (Outstanding wine)
Domain rated (guide 2023) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
Based on the 2018 vintage and complemented by reserve wines from a solera established in 2012, as well as younger reserve wines aged in foudre, Roederer's new NV Brut Collection 243 is a soft, enveloping Champagne that evokes crisp stone fruits, honeycomb, white flowers and buttery pastry. Medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and generous, with an ample fruity core, lively acids and a saline finish, it will offer demonstrative tasting from the moment it is released.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domain rated (guide 2025) 3*Stars (They represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment)
About the domain :
This is one of Champagne's finest standard-bearers. This family-run estate boasts a vineyard of 420 plots, the majority of which are Pinot Noir and 70% of which are classified as Grand Cru. Viticulture is a real priority here, notably through the transition to biodynamic viticulture. Soil cultivation is becoming the norm. Only such an exceptional vineyard can explain the unique level of harmony and concentration in such large volumes. It's no coincidence that the cellar master, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, is not only an oenologist but also an agronomist, like Jean-Claude Rouzaud, who built the current empire of the great Roederer international vineyards. He handed over the reins of the group to his son, Frédéric Rouzaud, current Chairman, at an early age. Here, malolactic fermentation is only partial and random (between 25% and 50%). The juices are worked on their lees in vats and oak barrels, to give them thickness.

A Brut Premier revisited by an admittedly talented, but very expensive sleight of hand - after all, not everyone is J-B Colbert! This preliminary remark in no way detracts from the fact that 243 is a Grand Champagne Brut. Medium-bodied and complex, this new cuvée unfurls rich, perfectly balanced notes of white and yellow stone fruit, citrus fruit and a hint of acacia. They wrap the palate in a full-bodied, fleshy texture that leaves a particularly pleasant, caressing sensation. Then, they evolve towards a beautifully mineral finish that gives an additional, airy relief of pleasant freshness. Either for pure pleasure, or for an aperitif dinner with friends featuring the subtle iodine notes of Aquitaine caviar and fresh salicornia from the Etangs Palavasiens. A score limited to 4 for this skilfully balanced Champagne epicurean wine, though its price remains inflationary.
