Champagne Pommery

In Reims, in an Elizabethan neo-Gothic architectural style, the Maison du Champagne Pommery is now part of the Vranken Monopole group. Founded in 1836 Pommery et Greno was taken over in 1858 by Madame Pommery. She gave it new impetus, with a commitment to quality and the expansion of her house on an international scale. A visionary of a new style of Champagne, she created the first brut Champagne, the Pommery Nature 1874, breaking with the codes and tradition of very sweet wines. Under his impetus, the Maison Pommery is the birthplace of imposing cellars in its chalky basements. A monumental 116-step staircase links this subterranean world to the outside world.
