"Fairly unaromatic, Général 2016 impresses with its spicy flavors and breadth of mouthfeel. Tonic yet restrained, it is carried by exceptional tactile freshness." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2020 - RVF) A wine of astonishing harmony and depth, retaining freshness and beautiful purity. Juicy, crisp and mineral on the palate. A great bottle! Tasting & pairing

Eye

Pale yellow with green highlights

Nose

Powerful, opening with very fresh notes of white fruit, butter and citrus, accompanied by a mineral note.

Mouth

This wine's freshness and acidity are balanced by its fatness and richness. The aromatic persistence is long and very complex. Woody aromas are discreet and enhance the wine's minerality.

Enjoy it on its own for pleasure, but this gastronomic wine will of course go well with a range of noble fish in sauce, or simply grilled, white meats and dry goat's cheeses...

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 4*Stars (Very high quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

In this historic landmark of Ajaccio vineyards, whose unique collection of old local white grape varieties has raised awareness of the moral and cultural obligation to diversify grape varieties throughout Corsica, Jean-Charles Abbatucci practices irreproachable viticulture with contagious generosity. The recent wines have the suppleness, naturalness and smoothness expected of them, and have clearly improved in consistency thanks to the complicity between the owner and a remarkable consultant oenologist, Emmanuel Gagnepain. Cuvée Faustine shines with pure finesse, while the grand cuvées Collection, Ministre, Général and Diplomate offer the refined complexity of their pioneering grape varieties. New cuvées, monte-bianco, alte-rosso, valle-di-nero, are starting to be produced, but the estate has not yet sent them out for tasting. That will be next year.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 17.5/20 (Grand vin)

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 3*Stars (They represent the excellence of the French vineyard. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wines is always a magical experience)

About the wine:

Not very aromatic, Général 2016 impresses with its spicy flavors and breadth on the palate. Tonic yet restrained, it is carried by exceptional tactile freshness.

About the domain :

The history of this estate began in the 20th century with a visionary, Antoine Abbatucci, the founder of this wine nursery, a veritable conservatory of indigenous Corsican grape varieties. Jean-Charles Abbatucci, Antoine's son, has taken the estate to the next level (massal selections, demanding biodynamics, rootstocks adapted to soil and climate...). The wines are easy to digest and fine, thanks to the refusal of excessive interventionism, and the maturing process has been refined by the use of foudres and concrete eggs.

A simply magnificent wine, both on the nose and on the palate. Very light on the nose, light on the palate, both mineral and vegetal. Somewhere between the fringiness of a Sauvignon and the nobility of a Chardonnay. Good length. Excellent with all fish and shellfish. Unfortunately, the price remains...
