Bodega Aalto
The Bodega Aalto in D.O Ribera del Duero belongs to Mariano García and Javier Zaccagnini and is considered by Michel Bettane and Thierry Dessauve to be "one of the 100 best estates in the world." For 30 years, Mariano García was the oenologist and genius behind the legendary VEGA SICILIA winery. Mariano is considered one of the best oenologists in the world and is hugely respected in all the countries where he has presented his wines and held conferences and tastings.
In 1998, Mariano joined forces with Javier Zaccagnini to create Bodega Aalto, with the aim of exploring the potential of the vines and terroir of the Ribera del Duero to produce a great wine, the result of serious, constant, and uncompromising work. In less than 10 years, Bodega Aalto has risen to the highest level worldwide. Bodega Aalto owns 42 hectares of vineyards spread across three sub-regions of Ribera del Duero, mainly straddling seven municipalities in the provinces of Burgos and Valladolid, in the best areas of the region. Thirty-two hectares are planted with Tinto Fino (Tempranillo de la Ribera del Duero) grapes, carefully selected from among the most interesting in the appellation. The soils are mainly clay-limestone.
Since its inception in 2000, the Bodega Aalto vineyard has been cultivated with low yields and maximum care is taken to protect the vineyard's ecosystem. In 2005, Aalto's new facilities, designed by renowned architect Jesús Manzanares, were completed in the municipality of Quintanilla de Arriba. The fermentation vats were manufactured based on the winery's own design, with a truncated cone shape, allowing for better handling of the caps and gentler extraction. Discovering the two vintages, Aalto and Aalto PS, is an explosion for the senses. Exceptional concentration and richness for spectacular, enjoyable wines.
