Bodega Aalto

Bodega Aalto in D.O Ribera del Duero is owned by Mariano García and Javier Zaccagnini and is considered by Michel Bettane and Thierry Dessauve to be "One of the 100 best estates in the world". For 30 years, Mariano García was the oenologist and genius incarnate of the legendary VEGA SICILIA bodega. Mariano is regarded as one of the world's leading oenologists, and enjoys immense respect in all the countries where he has presented his wines and conducted conferences and tastings.

In 1998, Mariano joined forces with Javier Zaccagnini to create Bodega Aalto, with the aim of exploiting the potential of the vine and the Ribera del Duero terroir to produce a great wine, the fruit of serious, consistent and uncompromising work. In less than 10 years, Bodega Aalto has risen to world-class status. Bodega Aalto owns 42 hectares of plots of land in 3 sub-regions of the Ribera del Duero, mainly straddling 7 municipalities in the provinces of Burgos and Valladolid, in the best areas of the region. 32 hectares are planted with Tinto Fino grapes (Tempranillo de la Ribera del Duero), carefully selected from among the most interesting in the appellation. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone.

Since its start-up in 2000, La Bodega Aalto 's vineyards have been cultivated with low yields, and maximum care is taken to protect the vine's ecosystem. In 2005, the new Aalto facilities were completed, designed by the renowned architect Jesús Manzanares, in the municipality of Quintanilla de Arriba. The truncated-conical fermentation vats are based on the bodega's own design, and allow for better cap handling and gentler extraction.
