Bodegas Sobreno
Bodegas Sobreño was founded by a group of Rioja winemakers, who set up a family winery with the aim of producing quality wines for the international market, based on a local grape variety, Tinta de Toro. In 1999, the first vintage was produced, and before long, the wines were winning numerous awards, and Bodegas Sobreño quickly became one of the Douro's leading estates.

Set in 24 hectares of vineyards, Bodegas Sobreno owns a total of 80 hectares, with a further 90 hectares acquired through exclusive agreements with local producers. Many of the vines are pre-phylloxera, meaning they are planted directly without the need for grafting, which notably increases their longevity.

Bodegas Sobreño produces straightforward, well-balanced, intensely colored red wines typical of Toro. Today, nearly 500,000 bottles are produced, 70% of which are exported to over 16 countries.

"The Finca Sobreño Reserva - Seleccion Especiale 2009 is a blend of the estate's best vines (over 50 years old) and is aged half 14 months in new American oak barrels, the rest in aged oak barrels. Its floral bouquet of black fruits, heather and dried violets is well-defined and seductive. The palate is medium-bodied, with a succulent attack of black cherry, balsamic, with a hint of orange zest and clove. Good structure and concentration, with a fresh finish. Very fine and elegant for a Toro red. Drink now through 2019 and beyond." (Wine Advocate Apr. 2013 - Robert Parker)

An intense Toro Crianza on the nose, developing a lovely combination of black fruits with a touch of wood, as well as pleasant balsamic and spicy accents. Complex, with very fine, silky tannins and a long, persistent finish. A charming Spanish red!
