Luigi Pira Estate
Luigi Pira is undoubtedly Piedmont's rising star, concocting exceptional wines at very reasonable prices, far removed from the skyrocketing prices of certain grands crus. Located in Serralunga d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe and more specifically the Barolo region, the estate was founded in the 1950s by Luigi Pira. Now run by his son, the immense and discreet winemaker Gianpaolo Pira, the Luigi Pira estate boasts 10 hectares of vines, with plots in the region's most renowned terroirs such as Marenca, Margheria and Vignarionda, and even shares some plots with its illustrious neighbor Angelo Gaja.

Luigi Pira's barolos, the result of meticulous vinification and chemical-free cultivation, are powerful, structured and complex wines. They reflect the full typicity of each of these unique terroirs. The Dolcetto is impressive in its richness and concentration. A winemaker to follow very closely, whose wines should be cellared. These are treasures for the future, still accessible and which will increase in value for those who know how to wait for them. The value for money of Luigi Pira wines is absolutely fabulous, bearing in mind that these are huge wines.

The nose of Barolo Serralunga is fresh and typical of the appellation, with elegant notes of leather, hay, earth and spices. On the palate, the wine already reveals silky tannins and magnificent balance with splendid length. Quite simply, a wine for pleasure!

This Dolcetto d'Alba displays the typical characteristics of the region. The balance of acidity, tannins and alcohol is harmonious. The fruit dominates the nose and palate, making this wine delicately greedy. A Piedmontese red that can be enjoyed young!

Luigi Pira - Marenca 2008

Score : Robert Parker 95/100
"The 2008 Barolo Vigna Marenca is surprisingly supple and elegant. Notes of red cherry, fresh-cut flowers, spice and mint take shape in the glass in a refined, invigorating register rarely seen in this wine. Remarkable, with a long, harmonious finish. A hint of dried rose and sweet cherry lingers in the empty glass, a dazzling display. Marenca has been aged in a combination of casks and barrels". (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)
