Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Graded area (2024 guide) 1*Star (A serious, commendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
Creisses refers to pebbles. Philippe Chesnelong took over this family estate in 1990. He is assisted by his cousin Louis Mitjaville, whose reputation has spread far beyond Saint-Émilion. The cuvée les-brunes is generally powerful, while the cuvée des creisses is more immediate and bursts with flavor. A truly fine address.

No fewer than six grape varieties, 20 days of maceration and more than eleven months of ageing produce an unclassifiable, full-bodied, rich IGP that combines intense fruit (blueberries, black cherries, blackcurrants) with subtle notes of wood, cocoa, caramel, roasting, vanilla and sweet spices. The palate is round and deep, structured around powerful, almost creamy tannins of astonishing finesse. The finish is deep, ample and very harmonious. It's a real feat in aromatic terms alone! Also a fine illustration of the modernity of a wine rooted in its Languedoc terroir, combined with the tradition and classicism of Bordeaux. Pair with a Fleur d'Aubrac beef rib steak with garrigue herbs, cooked on vine shoots. Score 4.4.
