"Le Clos de l'Écho is a veritable monument in the Chinon region, and this 2010 vintage seduces with its velvety, deep garnet-red color. This natural elegance is reflected in the nose, with its distinctive scents of red fruit and bell pepper. A fresh attack is followed by an ample palate built on silky tannins". Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2013 guide) 16.5/20 (Reference wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the wine:

Clos-de-l'écho does not assert itself as a young wine. 2010 sees it start out big in life, but retracted in its aromatic expression. Time will give it the openness it lacks today.

About the domain :

Arnaud, who has already been in charge for several vintages, is now alone at the helm. The clos-de-l'olive and clos-de-l'écho, the two peaks of the cellar, are wines for laying down that best reflect their terroir, with the former offering depth and the latter power. Don't overlook the "simple" chinon rené-couly, a great moment of immediate pleasure.

Estate rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

Clos de l'Écho is a veritable monument in the Chinonais region, and the Couly-Dutheil family, another landmark, has been operating it since 1921. Right from the start, this 2010 vintage seduces with its velvety, deep garnet color. This natural elegance is echoed on the nose, with its distinctive scents of red fruit and bell pepper. A fresh attack precedes an ample palate built on silky tannins, which will make this wine appreciated right out of the Guide, with veal kidneys for example.

About the domain :

Couly-Dutheil was founded in 1921 by Baptiste Dutheil, and is now run by Jacques Couly-Dutheil and his son Arnaud. With a vineyard of almost 94 ha, including the prestigious Clos de l'Écho and Clos de l'Olive, a modern cellar built into the rock and impressive 10th-century cellars beneath the Château de Chinon, it is an integral part of the Chinon winegrowing landscape. A benchmark not to be missed.

A very fine Chinon with an expression well marked by its terroir. The nose quickly opens up to a chalky, slightly earthy side, escorted by beautiful fruit with an autumnal accent. On the palate, the wine is still full-bodied and remarkably fresh, with ripe tannins and an elegant presence. A wine that hasn't said its last word, but which can be enjoyed now. Very representative of its appellation.
