"Clos de l'Écho is a veritable monument in the Chinon region. This 2010 vintage seduces with its velvety, deep garnet color. Its natural elegance is reflected in the nose, with distinctive aromas of red fruit and bell pepper. A fresh attack precedes a full palate built on silky tannins. (Guide Hachette des Vins)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2013 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)
Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About wine:
Clos-de-l'Écho does not assert itself as a young wine. The 2010 vintage saw it start off strong but return to its aromatic expression. Time will give it an openness that it does not yet have.
About the estate:
Arnaud, who has been in place for several vintages now, is now solely in charge. Clos-de-l'Olive and Clos-de-l'Echo, the winery's two top wines, are wines for aging that best express their terroir, with the former offering depth and the latter offering power. Don't overlook the "simple" Chinon René-Couly, a beautiful moment of immediate pleasure.

About wine:
Clos de l'Écho is a veritable monument in the Chinon region, and the Couly-Dutheil family, another benchmark, has been cultivating it since 1921. From the moment it is presented, this 2010 vintage seduces with its velvety, deep garnet color. This natural elegance is reflected in the nose, with distinctive aromas of red fruit and bell pepper. A fresh attack precedes a full palate built on silky tannins, which will make this wine a hit as soon as the Guide is released, paired with veal kidneys, for example.
About the estate:
The Couly-Dutheil winery was founded in 1921 by Baptiste Dutheil; today it is run by Jacques Couly-Dutheil and his son Arnaud. With nearly 94 hectares of vineyards, including the prestigious Clos de l'Écho and Clos de l'Olive, a modern winery built into the rock, and impressive 10th-century cellars located beneath the Château de Chinon, it is an integral part of the Chinon wine-growing landscape. An essential reference.

Review and opinion by Mr. OLIVIER R. Published on 10/28/2019
A very fine Chinon, clearly influenced by its terroir. The nose opens quickly with chalky and slightly earthy notes, accompanied by beautiful fruit with autumnal accents. The palate is still very full-bodied, with remarkable freshness resting on ripe tannins with an elegant presence. A wine that has not yet reached its peak but can be enjoyed now. Very representative of its appellation.
