"A superb bottle born on the clay-silica plots where Mouton, the horse of René Couly, Jacques' father, used to graze. In the glass, a Chinon of character, well-fruited (black fruit, hint of citrus) and finely spiced, long, rich and full-bodied on the palate, built on solid tannins." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins)

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the domain :
Arnaud, who has already been in charge for several vintages, is now alone at the helm. The clos-de-l'olive and clos-de-l'écho, the two peaks of the cellar, are wines for laying down that best express their terroir, with depth in the case of the former and power in the case of the latter. Don't overlook the "simple" chinon rené-couly, a great moment of immediate pleasure.

About the domain :
Couly-Dutheil was founded in 1921 by Baptiste Dutheil, and is now run by Jacques Couly-Dutheil and his son Arnaud. With almost 94 hectares of vineyards, including the prestigious Clos de l'Écho and Clos de l'Olive, a modern cellar built into the rock and impressive 10th-century cellars beneath the Château de Chinon, it is an integral part of the Chinon winegrowing landscape. A benchmark not to be missed.

Rijpingspotentieel 6jr.+ Score: 16+/20

Beautiful chinon with small black fruits and a nice grain.

A pure delight for the taste buds at a very affordable price! In more detail, sensual, rich and full-bodied in the image of this very good 2018. Underpinned by well-established, dense and extremely fine tannins, the touch is elegant on a fleshy, graceful and velvety texture, releasing abundant fruity flavors combined with peppery and cocoa notes. Overall, harmonious classicism, right down to its slightly acidic lingering finish. with disconcerting precision and persistence. It's already a real delicacy, with a guaranteed sweet/savory effect on veal liver cutlets with shallots deglazed in balsamic vinegar, accompanied by creamy parmesan polenta. Score 4.4.
