Les Vins de la Madone
In this young Côtes du Forez appellation, which came into being in 2000, Gilles Bonnefoy created the domaine. Les Vins de la Madonein 1997, based in Champdieu, in the south of the Loire Valley. He began by renting a few plots of old vines, then acquired 4 hectares of fallow land on different terroirs. In 2001, he quickly turned to organic viticulture. Wishing to take his natural, environmentally-friendly approach even further, in 2004 he embarked on a biodynamic approach, culminating in Demeter certification in 2009, with the introduction of semi-dynamic green manures, plant decoctions and biodynamic preparations.

Today, the Les Vins de la Madone estate covers 11 hectares of vines, mostly located around the Madone volcano, on volcanic and clay-granitic terroirs. Each plot is vinified on its own. The rather eclectic range includes two IGP d'Urfé white wines, six red wines with different terroir expressions, a rosé and two original bubbles. A fine discovery, with wines with a strong identity and new expressions of Gamay that will appeal to all Gamay aficionados.

"A Gamay expression to discover for all aficionados!

The Gamay vines on a half-volcanic, half-argillo-granitic terroir give us a very mineral expression, typical of these basaltic soils. The wine is fresh, full of red fruits supported by light spicy notes. The mouth is greedy and fruity, with explosive freshness and a light structure.

"A superb blend of Sauvignons on volcanic terroir, with impressive freshness".

"Sauvignons gris (60%) and blanc blended to give this volcanic white a clean, frank nose of fresh fruit, citrus in particular, and white flowers. On the palate, roundness and liveliness, suppleness and lightness; in short, balance and a profile that's easy to love." (Le Guide Hachette 2025). This cuvée is sure to charm you!

"Cuvée identitaire des Côtes du Forez" (Côtes du Forez identity wine)

On a soil of volcanic rock, the vines of Mémoire de Madone represent a parcel of local Gamay grapes nearly 50 years old. At first, this amateur's wine is surprising for its structure, which is a little tight when young, but will soften with age. On the palate, tangy, vegetal notes emerge, supported by good volume. A truly terroir-driven cuvée, original and profound, to be cellared for some time.

"A must-see!

A top-flight cuvée, based on an original blend of 3 Gamays on granite, little-known red-juice grape varieties: Gamay de Chaudenay , Gamay de Bouze, Gamaret. Intense black fruit on the nose, dense and full on the palate, marked by superb aromas of black cherry, bigarreau and a supple, fruity finish. This is a wonderful discovery that will delight lovers of new emotions...

On a volcanic terroir, the plot is divided between Gamay noir with white juice and Gamay de Bouze with red juice. The wine is pure juice with a hint of blackcurrant buds, crisp and easy-drinking, with great suppleness. Fragile because unprotected, it can be drunk during the day. It's the perfect wine to enjoy with spring and summer meals.

Planted in 2001, part of this selection of Roussanne comes from the Bergeron (Savoyard name) of the Quénard family in Savoie. Its southern exposure and volcanic soil ensure optimum ripeness. The palate is full-bodied, generous and complex, with fine aromatic nuances (bergamot, green tea, fresh apricot). Finally, marked by the mineral character of its basalt terroir, this fine, delicate cuvée will dazzle many!

Light, fine, delicate bubbles from Gamay noir with white juice. This cuvée will put everyone in agreement. The delicate nose blossoms with aromas of raspberry and redcurrant, lightly lemony. Creamy and light on the palate, with a fine balance between freshness and sweetness. An original, gourmand and fruity bubble, to be enjoyed chilled as an aperitif or with a chocolate dessert such as a black forest.

Sauvignons blanc and gris planted in 2011 on volcanic rock. This beautiful blend presents a nose of granny apple and pear, with an exotic expression completed by a touch of mango. The palate is balanced between freshness and roundness, with aromas of pear, white flowers and passion fruit enhanced by a note of flint reminiscent of the terroir. An original white wine to be enjoyed as an aperitif!
