Kumeu River
Kumeu River is the story of the Brajklovich family. Arriving from Croatia in 1937, the family first worked as vineyard workers before buying their first land in 1944. Michael Brajklovich, in the third generation, has taken the estate from Kumeu River to his highest level thanks to his in-depth knowledge of the vineyards and his vinifications in France. In 1989, he obtained the famous Master of Wine diploma, making Michael Brajkovich the 1st New Zealander to do so.

Kumeu River 's vineyards extend over 30 hectares, on a predominantly limestone terroir. Kumeu River is renowned for its Burgundian-style Chardonnays, which add body and volume.

"Kumeu River's 2018 Sauvignon Blanc comes from a Hawke's Bay vineyard originally conceived as part of a partnership between Trinity Hill and the Jolivet de la Loire family. It is made from hand-harvested grapes and fermented with indigenous yeasts, before being aged (briefly) in stainless steel. The nose is marked by notes of nectarine and pink grapefruit, while the medium-bodied palate has a silky texture and a lively, tangy finish, with hints of lime and fresh herbs." (Wine Advocate 2019). "Compared to the almost severe austerity of this renowned Chardonnay producer's high-end wines, this entry-level wine is downright spirited. Bright gold in hue, it's bursting with melon and stone fruit, with hints of honey and sea salt. The palate crunches with crystalline acidity wrapped in a slippery, powdery texture, with a long, salty finish. Drink now and over the next few years." (Wine Enthusiast 2020). Screw cap

"The 2018 Chardonnay Estate delivers typical toasty-powdery aromas, as well as notes of tangerine, white peach and pineapple. Medium-bodied and silky-textured, it's a bit restrained at this stage in its evolution, but should blossom in about six months, then drink well for up to a decade." "An emblematic vintage

"Soft notes of toasted grain mark the nose of Mate's Vineyard 2018 Chardonnay, framing aromas of ripe pineapple and white peach. There's also a hint of bacon fat. Medium-bodied on the palate, the wine is slightly creamy and silky, yet crisp and concentrated, tightening on the finish to end on an explosion of citrus zest. Like most vintages of Mate's, it ideally needs a few years in the cellar to fully express itself." (Wine Advocate 2019 - Joe Czerwinski) Screw-cap packaging
