Bettane & Desseauve

Domain rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

This is one of Provence's most famous estates. It belongs to the Combard family, who manage this 85-hectare estate, 30 hectares of which are leased. The vines, located on the seafront in schistose soil, have been grown organically since 1979. We are currently in the process of converting everything to biodynamic viticulture. We welcome this commitment, which is no easy task for an estate of this size. While the wines are one of Provence's best-known assets, the family also goes to great lengths to welcome visitors, and during the summer months offers a cultural program well worth the detour.

About the wine:

Classically composed of rolle grapes, enhanced by a drop of semillon (5%), this cuvée reveals an intense, complex bouquet of blackcurrant buds, pear, lime blossom and lime zest. These aromas infuse a fleshy, full-bodied and slightly acidic body, supported by a lovely vivacity that gives it length. A fine, fruity white to pair with pan-fried shrimp in salted butter.

About the domain :

Located in the commune of La Londe-les-Maures, overlooking the Golden Isles, Figuière has belonged to the Combard family since 1992. Today, Magali, Delphine and François are at the head of this 85-hectare vineyard, which has been organically farmed for 40 years.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 20/11/2023

A beautiful Provencal white, combining freshness, aromatic purity and light body in an elegant bottle. With its seemingly simple mineral base, this tonic, sapid cuvée conceals a wealth of fine flavors thanks to a judicious blend of Rolle, which enhances the crystalline, very light and lively aromas of peach and white flowers, pomelo and hawthorn, while Sémillon adds smoothness, amplitude and length with its hints of apricot and pineapple. A superb, salivating finish, energized by a delicate touch of iodine, combined with fine bitters. This Blanc plaisir revealed all its freshness and finesse at 8° with Sicilian-style swordfish steaks accompanied by an olive-oil pan-fried dish of cherry tomatoes, red peppers, black olives, onions and capers, enhanced with a pinch of Espelette pepper and herbes de Provence. Score = 4.2.
