Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2015 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
Between Aix and Salon-de-Provence, this 15-hectare estate is located on the Via Aurelia. The vines are naturally grassed, treatments are limited and weedkillers, pesticides and chemical fertilizers are banned. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in crates.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Estate rated 4*Stars (Very high quality production)
About the domain :
The estate is located between Aix and Salon-de-Provence, on limestone soils. Short pruning, disbudding, soil tillage, manual harvesting; small-volume vinification with indigenous yeasts, a little oak to allow the wines to develop their aromas for 24 months. That, in a nutshell, is the preferred treatment for this "Vin de Pays"!
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (2015 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with good production levels, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
This estate was taken over in 1999 by Minna and Jean-Paul Luc. Located in Saint-Cannat, the 15 hectares are planted with syrah, cabernet-sauvignon and mourvèdre; and with vermentino (or rolle), roussanne and marsanne, in white. In organic conversion since 2009 (the first labelled vintage will be 2012), the vineyard is carefully tended, with short pruning generating low yields on a poor limestone terroir. Vinification in small containers and ageing in Bordeaux barrels produce wines of great constitution, offering plenty of style and personality - far from any technological character. The wines are also aged for a long time! Bottles are only released after five years for the reds and three years for the whites. All the domaine's wines need long aeration, and decanting can only do them good.
