Domaine de Beaumalric - Beaumes de Venise 2015
89-91/100
Robert Parker
"The 2015 Beaumes de Venise is well worth the effort and offers sublime notes of ground pepper, ripe red fruit, and a hint of minerality in a medium-bodied, fleshy, and nicely concentrated style. It has tremendous charm and could become an extraordinary wine!" (Wine Advocate 2016 - Robert Parker)

Good value for money. At first glance, it seems rather alcoholic (14.5%), but when I tasted it, I found it rather light. It has fruitiness and body. Perhaps it lacks a little length on the palate.

Bright garnet color. The rich and harmonious nose reveals notes of blackberries, spices, and violets, while maintaining a beautiful freshness and a certain richness. The very fruity attack continues into a spicy mid-palate, finishing with subtle peppery notes, all with a lovely freshness. This is an honest wine. The palate is full-bodied with firm but crisp tannins. Very nice texture. A bottle that is true to its appellation, which will benefit from being left to age for another year as the alcohol is still noticeable.

The southern Rhône has its Gemshere's one, a Beaumes de Venise from a sunny year, guaranteeing beneficial aging to soften the tannins...

Hard and charmless, falling far short of expectations. Disappointing.

A good Côte du Rhône at a reasonable price. Beautiful aromas and good length on the palate. It can be drunk now but can also be laid down; the 2015 vintage must have something to do with it.
