Domaine Les Cailloux - André Brunel
This family estate, which dates back to the 17th century, is now run by André Brunel, who has taken over the management of the estate. domaine Les Cailloux as early as 1971, by opting to do away with all phytosanitary products and planting grass throughout the vineyard.

Today, the André Brunel estate, better known abroad than in France, is part of the Châteauneuf du Pape elite. The Les Cailloux vineyard is spread over three appellations: the flagship appellation is, of course, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with 21 hectares of varied soils: pebbles, sand and clay; Côtes du Rhône, with 40 hectares of vines and alluvial soils of the sandy-clay type; and Vin de Pays de Vaucluse, with 30 hectares of vines on fluvial alluvial soils. The Les Cailloux vineyard is planted mainly with Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault for red wines, and Roussanne, Grenache blanc and Clairette for white wines.

Fabrice Brunel, André Brunel's son, joined the Les Cailloux domaine in 2012.

"One of the greatest vintages for this cuvée!

"A seductive, velvety, caressing wine from Grenache vines planted in 1889. The nose reveals notes of cherries, sweet berries, dried herbs and mild spices. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins. The wine is bright, with notes of orange peel and succulent berries mingling with herbs and spices. Lively and vertical, with tension and an infused yet dense texture on the palate. Persistent and spectacular." (James Suckling 2024)

"One of the 3 best whites in the appellation".

"An elegant, complex bouquet of white flowers, apricot, jasmine and lemon oil introduces Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc 2023, a medium- to full-bodied, pure and structured white wine with a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids and a lively, airy floral finish." (Wine Advocate 2024)

"A velvety, structured and controlled red, with a nose of black cherry, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry, baking spices and dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied, with finely grained tannins. The balance and harmony are impressive for the vintage, with a long, funnel-like finish." (James Suckling 2024).

"Large format

" A wine that will tend toward perfection in 4-5 years, the Centenaire 2019 reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as extraordinary notes of black cherry, licorice, iron, nori and peppery garrigue. As a basis for this 2019, the estate has done an incredible job, particularly on the tannins. This wine is perfectly balanced, with ultra-fine tannins, no hard edges and pure class to evolve over 25 years and more. [...]" (Jeb Dunnuck)

"On macerated red fruits, cherries and spices, complexity is brought by notes of dried herbs and maquis. The aromatic ensemble is just right, and the level of maturity is revealed without any stylistic heaviness. On the palate, the power is diffused, the structure sapid. This Châteauneuf evolves more in finesse than in opulence, testifying to a Burgundian spirit". (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2021 - RVF) Among the 8 Rhône wines to buy as a priority!

"I've tasted many vintages of Brunel's wines, and 2016 seems to be the best ever. The 2016 Châteauneuf du Pape stood out in my blind tasting, offering incredible complexity and lightness despite its roundness. Roses, garrigue and dried spices accent raspberry and cherry notes in a concentrated, intense yet lively wine with multiple nuances." (Wine Advocate - Joe Czerwinski)
