"The red range begins with the classic Esus, Duché d'Uzès 2016 composed largely of Syrah but also Grenache (30%), Cinsault (15%) and Carignan (10%). Notes of green pepper, plums, blackberries and undergrowth give a fleshy, concentrated wine with a lovely texture. 2016 is full of charm." (Jeb Dunnuck 2017)

Mas des Volques
Duchy of Uzès
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2019 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
Nicolas Souchon is cellar master at Clos Saint-Jean in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. He has also created his own estate, Mas des Volques, just outside Nîmes on the terroirs of the Duchy of Uzés. The Volques were the first tribe to populate the Mediterranean basin, long before the Romans. With the help of Philippe Cambie, Nicolas has created two cuvées: volcae, from very old Grenache, Syrah and Carignan vines, matured in fine casks, and alba-dolia, based on Roussanne and Viognier, a tasty gastronomic white. The first vintages have already reached a very high level. To be continued.
