"Tasted on foudres, Domaine Raspail-Ay's 2015 Gigondas is a beautiful blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, vinified in concrete tanks and aged in foudres. The wine is full-bodied, creamy-textured, and embellished with spices of cinnamon, cracked pepper, Provence herbs and layered over aromas of red plums. The finish is rich with ripe tannins." (The Wine Advocate 2017)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated (2018 guide) 15.5/20 (Very good wine)

Domain rated 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the wine:

A wine of elegance, its tasty, well-mastered juices will settle down and gain in depth with ageing.

About the domain :

Dominique Ay is Gigondas' old sage in the noblest sense of the word. The illustrious president of the appellation for many years, he is one of the leading figures of the Southern Rhône. Knowing Grenache inside out, he makes the clay-limestone soils of the Parties terroir speak for themselves. Aging then takes on its full meaning, as the wines are matured in large-capacity tuns for a minimum of 24 months. The torch has now been passed on to his children, with Anne-Sophie in charge of sales and Christophe in charge of the winery and vineyards - no less! In a timeless style, the estate's only wine is renowned for its longevity. Very powerful and structured, even firm in its youth, it develops a silky texture and perfect balance. The 2016, tasted in vats, should produce a great bottle...

Domain rated (guide 2024) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the domain :

The estate's wine represents the archetype of good Gigondas, full-bodied, vigorous and unostentatious. Firm and tightly-knit, the best vintages require four to five years of cellaring to open up fully. From then on, they gain in complexity over time and improve over ten to twenty years.

1 bottle drunk at the end of 2018, nose under the wood, hard vanilla... mouth with stavewood and quite a bit of chew, needs to digest the ageing... could make a fine bottle in 5 to 8 years...
