Château de la Selve
Nestled in Grospierres in the south of the Ardèche, the Château de la Selveonce a stronghold on the borders of the Empire (13th century) and then the Kingdom of France, belongs to the Chazallon since 1990. Today, the estate includes the winegrowing part of the business and six gîtes de France, which are open to tourists.

In 2002, Benoît Chazallon, a recent graduate of the Ecole Viticole de Beaune, took over the family vineyard and began restructuring it, with "the daily ambition of working on lively wines of great finesse and freshness, the pure expression of our terroirs". A true gem, the natural environment of the site reveals great potential for wine production, with sunshine, cool nights, wild landscapes, limestone soils, garrigue, hummus, truffles.... To allow the terroir to express itself, it goes without saying for Benoit Chazallon that the living elements in the soil must be preserved, and this has meant working the vines organically and biodynamically since 2002. His efforts have paid off, as in 2012 he was crowned " Discovery of the Year" at the Trophées du Vin organized by the Revue des Vins de France, an annual awards ceremony for wine industry professionals.

Château de la Selve produces five different grape varieties on 38 hectares of vines in the Coteaux de l'Ardèche PGI: Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon for the reds, and Viognier for the whites. Attention is paid above all to the balance and life of the soils to allow the notion of terroir to express itself, and a choice of controlled yields of between 25 and 45 hectolitres per hectare allows for greater concentration of the wines.

This amateur red wine combines strength and finesse... The palate is silky and generous with black fruit, garrigue and spice notes. An original blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Cinsault, the wine is worked with precision, aged for 12 months in amphora and barrels. "New!"

This 100% Viognier, picked at early ripeness and aged for 4 months in concrete tanks on fine lees, is Château de la Selve's new cuvée. Aromatic on the nose with hints of peach and white flowers, it has a lively, taut balance on the palate, with intensity and finesse of fruit.
