The Principauté d'OrangePGI is a regional wine covering the area around the town of Orange, based on the boundaries of the former territory of the Princes of Orange (1230-1793). To benefit from thePrincipauté d'Orangeprotected geographical indication, wines must be made from grapes harvested in communes located in the cantons of Bollène, Orange, Vaison la Romaine, Valréas and Courthézon, i.e. a total of 36 communes in the Vaucluse département. The conditions for this label were laid down in the decree of March 5, 1981.
