"Best seller
"A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Carignan from old vines, the 2017 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Tautavel Silex is aged partly in barrel and partly in tank. It delivers just enough cedar on the nose to let you know there's the influence of wood ageing, without overwhelming the crushed stone notes from the terroir or the varietal dark berry notes. Full-bodied, concentrated and supple, this is a superb bottle of Roussillon wine, with a long, elegant finish." (Wine Advocate 2020)

A distinctive red with broad shoulders. On the palate, it delivers a high concentration of dark berries in alcohol, and is built on structured, round and very ripe tannins, with woody and vanilla accents. The finish is just as warm, with meaty notes and a hint of acidity. The overall impression is one of exuberance, to the detriment of finesse and balance. The tannic structure, reinforced by a generous vintage, will enable it to age well. This characterful cuvée was an easy match for a tajine of Corbières lamb with eggplants. Score = 3.6.

Reduced on opening, a little rough and massive, it reveals itself after 48 hours of oxidation. The black fruits are assertive, and the vegetal and aromatic terroir of Occitanie is revealed. This is not a wine of finesse, but of round, pleasant generosity. Good balance.
