Discover Maury and Côtes du Roussillon du Mas Amiel
The history of the maury estate Mas Amiel begins in 1816, with a bishop playing one of his lands around a table. He lost it to Raymond Etienne Amiel. He thus pocketed a 10-hectare vineyard, later destroyed by phylloxera in 1865 (a plague of vine-destroying aphids). However, the estate was later replanted with American vines. This was the beginning of its second life. Amiel's son joined forces with Camille Gouzy, who built a tuns cellar on the estate.Wine estates recommended by

Mas Amiel - Maury Vintage rouge (vin doux naturel) 2022

An enchanting nose of blackcurrant, cherry and blackberry accompanies a gourmet palate of finesse. A 100% Grenache vin doux naturel that goes equally well with sweet and savory dishes and chocolate desserts.
Mas Amiel - Maury sec Oiseau Rare 2022
92/100 RVF
-
92/100 Bettane & Desseauve
"A wine soared with rain, rocks and roses. It fills the mouth vertically, then broadly, like choral music filling the high vault of a cathedral. The delicate dryness of the tannins brings breath and pauses, increasing the tension and lengthening the echo of its harmonies. A wine of great purity and determination". (Jancis Robinson 2023)
Mas Amiel - Maury Millésime 1999 (vin doux oxydatif)
5/5 (1 review)
19,5/20 Jancis Robinson
-
99/100 Bettane & Desseauve
"It looks like prune juice. It smells of licorice tea, smoked anise and linseed. Surprisingly smoky and meaty. Prunes. Stunning concentration - it feels as if the wine has been extracted from the heart of the earth. There's so much here that it's impossible to do this wine justice in a quick tasting. This wine requires hours of time and attention. It's an imposing sculpture. To grasp it, you have to sit with it, listen to it, give it a chance to tell its story." (Jancis Robinson 2024)
Mas Amiel - Maury sec Initial 2019
4.2/5 (4 reviews)
87/100 Robert Parker
"A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Carignan and 10% Syrah aged in vats, Maury Sec Initial 2019 presents scents of crushed stone and black fruit on the nose. It's medium- to full-bodied, structured, with dusty tannins and a somewhat crisp finish. It could improve over the coming year, but should be drunk by 2025." (Wine Advocate 2021)
Mas Amiel - Maury Vintage Blanc (vin doux naturel) 2022
3.7/5 (3 reviews)
92/100 RVF
"The range of vins doux naturels is, as usual, top-flight, with a 2022 maury blanc on wild fennel and aniseed". (Le Guide RVF 2024). Out of the ordinary and superb!

Mas Amiel - Vol de Nuit 2018
4/5 (1 review)
Vol de Nuit is the purist, no-nonsense expression of Carignan rooted deep in schist. Intense, complex, mineral nose, garrigue herbs, verbena, faded rose, blackcurrant fruit paste. On the palate, the wine is straightforward, fine, saline, finely spiced. It is full-bodied and dynamic, finishing with lines of great purity. Juicy and supple.

16/20 Bettane & Desseauve
"The latest version of Maury 40 Years shows tonic nutty aromas and hints of maple syrup. Yet it's surprisingly ready to drink, being medium to full-bodied, with moderate sugar content and notes of mocha and ripe citrus on the long, lingering finish." (Wine Advocate 2019 - Joe Czerwinski)
Mas Amiel - Vintage Réserve 2014

1*Étoile Hachette
"Candied fruit, burlat cherry, licorice, bergamot and spices are found in this charming offensive that balances sweetness and freshness. Young and accomplished, to be enjoyed now". (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve 2020) Digestive par excellence, this Maury seduces with its finesse.
Mas Amiel - Origines 2013
4/5 (4 reviews)
92-94/100 Robert Parker
"The Côtes du Roussillon Villages Origine is an equal sharing of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, aged in a 40hl Bourguignon foudre. This fabulous 2013 reveals a dark purple color as well as notes of cassis, plum, ink, licorice and sweet wood. Strong, full-bodied and hyper-concentrated, with an unctuous texture, it remains reasonably civilized on the palate, with very slight heaviness, ripe tannins and lovely overall freshness. Those looking for more elegant, less ripe wines should avoid it, but we're fans" (Wine Advocate 2016 - Robert Parker)
