Mas Amiel

Rich in sugar, the clusters of Mas Amiel vineyard produce colorful wines that are low in acidity and remarkably fruity. Olivier Decelle, with a wealth of experience already put to good use at Château Jean Faure, Château Haut-Maurac, and Château Haut-Ballet, oversees this two-hundred-year-old estate and has only one goal: to make Mas Amiel a benchmark estate in the appellation Maury, recognized throughout the world. A mission he has accomplished with flying colors!

The history of the Maury estate Mas Amiel began in 1816, when a bishop gambled away one of his estates at a card table. He lost it to Raymond Etienne Amiel, who thus acquired a 10-hectare vineyard, which was subsequently destroyed by phylloxera in 1865 (an invasion of aphids that ravaged the vines). However, the estate was then replanted with American vines. This marked the beginning of its second life. Amiel's son then went into partnership with Camille Gouzy, who built a cellar with large oak barrels on the estate. 

However, Mas Amiel wine faced new challenges, with sales declining. The estate was then mortgaged and taken over by Charles Dupuy. His son, Charles, worked there until 1997. Olivier Decelle bought the estate in 1999, enabling it to continue operating for many years to come. 

Colorful wines are produced from the grapes of the Mas Amiel vineyard, such as the Mas Amiel white Maury. These wines are low in acidity but very fruity. In 2011, the winery reached another milestone with the creation of the dry AOC Maury. The Maury vineyard has been producing dry wines since the Middle Ages: this is an opportunity to celebrate and highlight the history of the estate and its products. The estate also offers exceptional wines, such as the Mas Amiel Maury vintage 2015. Mas Amiel works day after day to showcase its skills and expertise, qualities that extend beyond the borders of the department.
