Bas-Armagnac is a wine brandy produced in the Armagnac region of southwestern France. Recognized in 1963, the Bas-Armagnac appellation d'origine contrôlée is based on soils of tawny clayey sand and boulbènes, ancient silts. They produce fruity, fine and complex eaux-de-vie that are highly reputed. Bas-Armagnac is distilled from dry white wines, and has an alcoholic strength of 40% vol. or higher.
Bas-Armagnac is produced on a surface area of around 1,500 hectares, in the communes of Labastide-d'Armagnac, Mauvezin-d'Armagnac, Lagrange and Betbezer-d'Armagnac, all in the Landes department.
The quality and reputation of this distilled wine has spread across borders, thanks in particular to the products offered by houses such as Domaine du Tariquet.
