Côtes de Montravel

Côtes de Montravel

The Côtes de Montravel Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée comes from the exceptional terroir of the Montravel appellation.

The hillsides that make up the bulk of AOC Montravel's terroir extend those of Saint-Emilion and Côtes de Castillon to the east. To the west, they mark the entrance to the Bergerac vineyards. These foothills of the Périgord Pourpre also mark the boundary between oceanic and continental climates. It's here, at Montravel, that the mascaret, the breaking wave that sweeps up from the ocean onto the Dordogne at every tide, comes to an end.

The 27 hectares that make up the appellation are planted mainly on slopes of molasses from the Agenais region, a Tertiary structure that has undergone a great deal of reworking.

Côtes de Montravel wines are white and made from a maximum of 10% Muscadelle, Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Ondenc grapes. They are sweet wines with a residual sugar content of between 8 and 54 grams per liter.

Château Moulin Caresse - Magie d'Automne 2012 (Moelleux)

From a south-facing plateau of boulbènes on ferruginous clay, this light yellow moelleux has a fine, elegant nose, with hints of pear, quince and white flowers. An unctuous white that retains good freshness, rich on the palate without being syrupy, with nuances of white fruit and apricot... A lovely treat!
