"A direct confrontation with the great God of wine for James Suckling, or the best Riesling of the year 2024 for Vinum!

"Stunning nose of pineapple chutney and curry leaf with great lemon complexity, swirling together to create a great cloud of mystery. Then you descend into a deep well of minerality. Almost supernatural freshness and energy on the razor-sharp palate. Are you strong enough for this direct confrontation with the great God of wine? Made from biodynamically grown, Respekt-certified grapes. Drink now, but best from 2025. (James Suckling 2023)

Rated (guide 2023) 96/100 (Extraordinary wine)

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Produced from the cru's main plots, Morstein Westhofen Riesling GG 2022 is pure, intense and chalky, with an elegant, dense, spicy nose of darker tones, still a little wild but deep and exciting, even with aromas of woodruff! Very mineral and tannic on the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and extremely complex Riesling, masculine and monolithic, which needs plenty of cellar time to develop and refine. A very promising Riesling! 12.5% declared alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the estate in July 2023. 2029-2050

About the wine:

I wonder how the prices of the various Wittmann GGs are determined. This wine is generous and approachable, with strong gelatinous notes and massive fruit nuances. Quite long. Fresh, refreshing finish. 2023-2035

Rated wine (guide 2023) 95-97

About the wine:

Riesling Westhofener Morstein Grosses Gewächs 2022 opens with a note of reduction, but a bright, pure, lifted lemon shines through. Subsequent scents reveal lemon balm and crushed dried herbs, suggesting freshness and serenity. The palate has a certain hardness, an austerity, suggesting deep, damp, chalky earth rather than more intense fruit. Graceful phenolic notes build the frame and line the palate. The wine always seems to sink deeper into the stone. Fine and powerful, the 2022 is a wine for laying down. It shows endurance and solidity, without letting itself be influenced by the fruit. Austere but grandiose. 2028-2050

Falstaff

Falstaff

Wine rated (guide 2023) 96+/100

About the wine:

A little masked, notes of spontaneous fermentation, spicy, apple, fennel, caraway seeds, the overall picture emerges behind. On the palate, arrow-straight acidity carries maritime notes, a salty touch, a little oyster water, tight extract, fine phenols, long, very young.

Vinum

Vinum

Wine rated (guide 2024) Best Riesling of the year

About the wine:

Fine white currant notes, radiant, juicy, striking acidity, super-clear, persistent finish on finesse and spices.
