Dr Loosen
The estate Dr Loosen has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen took over in 1988, he realized that with over 60-year-old pre-phylloxera vines, planted in some of Germany's finest vineyards, he had the raw material to produce extraordinary, world-renowned wines. To achieve this, he massively reduced the number of vines, used natural fertilizers, insisted on meticulous sorting of the harvest and practiced gentle methods in the winery to allow the wine to develop its full potential with minimum intervention.

Since 1992, Dr Loosen has been a member of VDP. Die Prädikatweingüter, the prestigious association of Germany's best winemakers.

"The 2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling GG Alte Reben is bright, clear, fine and relaxed on a subtly concentrated nose that displays perfectly ripe stone fruit aromas interwoven with delicate slate notes. On the palate, this is a concentrated, lush, dynamic, crystalline, highly refined and complex Sonnenuhr with finely racy acidity, plenty of energy, grip and mineral tension." (Wine Advocate 2020)

"The Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett 2013 presents itself in a pale lemon-yellow color and exudes frank aromas of fresh grapes, yellow melon and some hints of exotic fruit. The wine is very aromatic and greedy. Nice salinity on the finish." (Wine Advocate 2015 - Robert Parker). Bernkasteler Lay is a terroir classified as VDP Grosse Lage - the equivalent of a Grand Cru in Germany. As for "Kabinett", this is the lightest, most delicate style for a German Riesling. A wonderful discovery!

Dr L Riesling personifies the elegance and racy character of Moselle's steep slate soils. It's a bright, lively, fruity wine made from grapes grown by partner winegrowers along the river. The Loosen brothers work closely with these growers to achieve impeccable harvest quality and concentrated aromas in every vintage.
