A blend of two old vineyards for this Alsace Pinot Noir. Black fruits and a hint of vanilla envelop our nostrils before giving way to a full, supple and structured palate. According to Sophie Schaal, it's a "perfect antidote to the fatigue of a long day"!

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain rated 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the domain :
In 2011, Julien Schaal set up his own Alsatian structure in parallel with a trading venture in South Africa, a highly original venture since it is based exclusively on the purchase of Grand Cru grapes. There are currently nine grands crus on the menu, covering just about every soil type in the region, and only Riesling is offered, with the exception of a gewurzt from Osterberg and a blend from Altenberg de Bergheim. A blind tasting of his 2017s blew us away. Hats off to him!

Smoky nose with a touch of vanilla, ripe red fruit with an earthy touch, and undergrowth. Supple and fresh on the palate, with good length. Good+, rating: 3.5

5 for value for money. As described, it's supple and greedy, with fine notes and a certain amplitude that unfolds throughout the tasting. Served slightly chilled in summer, it's ideal.

Fresh and airy, this cuvée is moderately perfumed with tangy berries, complemented by a few balsamic notes. Soft tannins support a smooth, silky texture, as well as medium length and overall balance. With a light titre of 12.5%, ideal for hot weather, this cheerful, convivial summer red will be well-suited after cooling, for a summer aperitif with friends over sunny tapas. Score = 3.4.
