Alsace's vineyards play an important role in the region's history. Its cultivation was developed by the Romans, then revived by the Merovingians and Carolingians. By the Middle Ages, Alsace wines were among the most prestigious in Europe. The 16th century marked the apogee of Alsatian viticulture, a prosperous period that came to an end with the Thirty Years' War.

At the end of the First World War, Alsace's vineyards were back in the limelight. Winegrowers decided to focus on typical grape varieties and embarked on a policy of quality. From 1945 onwards, production had to comply with strict production and vinification rules. The Alsace AOC (appellation d'origine contrôlée) was recognized in 1962. Today, it represents over 70% of the region's wines.

In Alsace, it's the grape varieties that give the wines their names, not the land. The grape varieties used for Alsace white wines (90% of production) are riesling, gewurztraminer, sylvaner, pinot blanc and pinot gris. Alsace red wines are made from pinot noir. Covering 15,000 hectares, Alsace's vineyards are 120 km long, often less than 1 km wide. The vineyards enjoy a semi-continental climate, with cold winters and hot, dry summers. Thanks to the Vosges mountain range to the west, the vineyards are protected from wind and rain.

What's more, there are many renowned estates to discover when it comes to Alsace wines: Weinbach, Leon Boesch, Albert Mann, Ostertag, Josmeyer, le Vignoble du Rêveur, Marcel Deiss, Loew, Albert Boxler, Zind-Humbrecht and Jean-Baptiste Adam. You're sure to find quality wines that showcase the Alsace region, a great land of wines.

"A wine that will stay in your memory!

"Elegant smoky touch, pretty notes of yellow flowers, then fresh banana, on the palate the signature of the terroir is evident with that rubbed match note, it tastes totally dry (2 g!) which makes tasting even more immediate, the balance is splendid thanks to a rare unctuosity in the touch, finish carried by bitters and a roasted toasted note. A great wine" (Bettane+Desseauve)

"Grandiose (RVF)

"The Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Selection de Grains Nobles 2005 can only be described as "out of the ordinary" [...] Aromas of tea, honey, apricot jam and fresh lemon assault you right from the glass. On the palate, it's almost gelatinous, but with a citric intensity and concentration worthy of a laser. [...] Count on a more bearable concentration in 15 to 20 years, and on the fact that it will outlive anyone reading this note today." (Wine Advocate 2008)

"A lot of class (Bettane+Desseauve) "

"Clos Windsbuhl is perhaps even more revealing of the advantages of a cool, windy, chalky site in a vintage where extremely high must weights were the price to pay for a truly full-flavored Gewurztraminer. Smoked meats, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, lychee, pineapple and the decadent scent of rose and lily combine to create a seductive aroma and a lush, creamy, multi-faceted palate. Not only is the fresh fruit surprisingly juicy on the finish, but the wine also has surprising buoyancy for a wine grading close to 14% alcohol, and a hint of salinity stimulates the salivary glands while perfectly complementing the liquid florality and aura of caramelization that also emerge. There's even a suggestion of chalk and stone to fuse this grandiose tribute to its site, grape variety and producer. The more it's exposed to the air, the more it reveals its charm." (Wine Advocate 2014)

"How can you resist the delicacy and finesse of this elegant dry Riesling? So light on its feet, despite the major stony minerality that reaches every nook and cranny of your palate. So pure and straightforward in the crystalline finish that just won't stop." (James Suckling 2024)

"This 2019 plays a remarkable score (Hachette)"

"Dedicated to the patron saint of musicians, this 2019 plays a remarkable score. Harvested about a month after the start of the harvest, the Gewurztraminer has produced a superb mellowness, a reflection of the grape variety and a fine vintage. From the outset, this wine displays its richness in an intense golden yellow color and a generous, complex nose, with varietal notes (lychee, mango, spices) and more original nuances of violet and toast. Equally aromatic, the palate is full-bodied, unctuous and long-lasting. Fresh, spicy (clove), tinged with a slight bitterness, the finish leaves a memory of rare harmony". (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

Domaine Meyer-Fonné - Alsace Pinot Noir Altenbourg 2022

"[...] From the outset, the bouquet displays grandeur, both in its plurality and subtlety. Graphite nuances combine with morello cherry aromas, followed by a hint of dark berries. On the palate, the wine lives up to the promise of its bouquet. It is dense, deep and carried by compact tannins that offer power and perspective, while acidity confers temperament and uprightness. In the broad context of 2022, this is balancing and structuring". (Yves Beck 2024)

The union of 2 emblematic Alsace grape varieties! The nose is a balance between the floral and exotic notes of gewurztraminer and the lemony hints of riesling. The airy, full-bodied palate envelops the whole without ever weighing it down. A real taste discovery. Packaged in glass stopper

"This cuvée and a good foie gras ... a dream at the table!"

Artisan 2021 presents a broad aromatic palette on the nose, with notes of papaya, candied orange, rose petals and toasted malt. Viney and tannic, the palate is lively and lemony. A wine to discover with foie gras, for example... (Vin orange is a white maceration wine) Packaged in glass stoppers.

"Sparkling Alsace

"While the domaine offers the full range of Alsace wines, the village of Scherwiller and its surrounding area is home to many terroirs favorable to Riesling, the only grape variety used in this crémant from the 2020 harvest. On the nose, floral notes (honeysuckle, lime blossom) are accompanied by a "petrol-like" minerality characteristic of the grape variety. This character is reflected in a supple attack on the palate, followed by a lively finish". (Le Guide Hachette 2024) Daring, but successful!

"A great wine in the making (Yves Beck)".

"The bouquet reveals subtle fruity notes with nuances of apricot, vine peach, peppermint and lemongrass. The classic flinty notes are also present, like a foundation, with the aim of ensuring the olfactory backbone. On the palate, the wine adopts a progressive, cautious attitude. It can count on the incisive, structuring character of its acidity, but it hardly wants to hurry. Why should it? It's built to last a few decades. Bitterness also plays a key role in this wine's configuration. It takes the back seat in terms of taste, imparting vigor and enhancing aromatic expression, both in terms of intensity and persistence. The wine knows exactly where it wants to go, but it doesn't yet know how! All the necessary elements are in place to get there, so it logically opts for patience and time". (Yves Beck 2024)
