Jean Foillard Estate
The family estate is masterfully run by Jean Foillard, a true Beaujolais reference in the Morgon appellation. The vineyard comprises around 8 hectares of vines planted on the famous Côte-du-Py, with a terroir of decomposing granite schist characteristic of the cru.
Jean Foillard has always been a fervent proponent of sound growing and vinification methods, producing natural, precise wines with no frills, made from grapes picked when very ripe. The vineyard has been farmed organically for 25 years, harvested by hand, and vatted for 2 to 3 weeks at low temperature without yeast, using whole grapes. Today, Jean Foillard ranks among the elite of Beaujolais, delivering wines of exemplary smoothness and precision, acclaimed by all.

Since 2001, the estate has sold all its grapes to SAS Foillard, a winemaking and distribution company. At the same time, a wine merchant has been set up for certain cuvées, such as Eponym' and Elles, whose grapes do not come from the estate, but from a winegrower with whom the estate has a partnership and a cultivation charter.

95+/100 Robert Parker

"The 2016 Morgon Cuvée 3.14 is a beautiful wine in the making, unfolding in the glass with scents of rose petals, blood orange, sweet wild berries, smoked meats and subtly reductive top notes that dissipate in the glass. On the palate, it's medium- to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a deeper, more reserved profile than Foillard's spectacular Côte du Py 2016." (Wine Advocate 2019 - William Kelley) A sparkling deep Morgon.

92/100 Robert Parker

"Named after an alchemical oven, the unique 2015 Morgon Athanor has the same origins as the estate's Cuvée 3.14, but it was so atypically ripe - fully reaching 15.4% alcohol - that the Foillard family thought it should bear a different name. Offering a deep bouquet of cherries, wild plums, dark chocolate and fruit compote, it's full-bodied, rich and powerful, with a full, muscular frame of powdered tannin, a generous core of fruit and a long finish. While it's certainly not light, the tasting is perfect despite its extreme style. It will be interesting to see how it evolves." (Wine Advocate 2019 - William Kelley) An exceptional solar Morgon!

Note : RVF 17/20
"Cuvée 3.14 (for Py) comes exclusively from old vines on the hillside and is only produced in great vintages. In 2010, it delivers a generous, full and dense wine, perfectly expressing this great terroir". (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2013 - RVF). A concentrated, rich Morgon, with aromas of fresh black fruits and characteristic kirsch nuances. All the magic of old Gamay vines!

"As concentrated and rich as ever, intense fruit, fresh black fruit pulp, velvety length, bewitching finish, a very great py in an extraordinary vintage. It's still tasting on the fruit, but should soon close up". (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France 2013)
