Barsac
The Barsac appellation is located 40 kilometers southeast of Bordeaux, at the mouth of the Ciron, a small river that joins the Garonne on its left bank.

The cold waters of the Ciron create a special microclimate that favors the formation of fog at night in autumn. During the day, this fog gives way to sunshine. This alternation is conducive to the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) which, by attacking the skin of the grapes, promotes their dehydration. The pulp is then transformed into a sort of golden jam, concentrating sugars, juice and aromas.

Barsac wines have an intense, deep nose, with a warm, elegant bouquet. They are powerful and nervous on the palate, full-bodied and elegant, with fatness, freshness and an aromatic palette of rare richness. This harmoniously blends notes of honey, white peach, almond, oriental spices, mango, pineapple, dried apricot, toast and vanilla toast. Barsac wines are exceptionally persistent, with long, highly perfumed finishes and pleasant hints of menthol.

AOC Barsac wines are made from Sémillon, the dominant grape variety in the blend, and Sauvignon, with Muscadelle sometimes added. The production of Barsac wines is perfectly mastered at renowned estates such as Château Climens and Château Coutet.

"It's unanimously acclaimed: magnificently fragrant, monumental, a tour de force that will blow you away..."

"Château Coutet 2020 is absolutely magnificent, with a concentrated, powerful style in its nuances of caramelized orange, honeyed flowers, pineapple upside-down cake, toast and spice. Rich, full-bodied and layered, it is nonetheless concentrated and pure, with a precision and vivacity worthy of a laser in the mouth. This Sauternes tour de force will blow you away for the next 2 decades." "My favorite Sauternes - Decanter

" My favorite Sauternes ! Already glorious, it will live for decades. Burnished gold color, hints of botrytis on the nose, some notes of leaves, spices and lemongrass and a palate with just the right balance between gourmandise and freshness. Extremely subtle oak. A wonderful Barsac to be enjoyed from 2022 to 2060. (Decanter 2021) - Delivery in wooden case possible for orders of 12 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).

"Pale to medium lemon-gold in color, Haut Coustet 2016 bursts from the glass with bold scents of green mango, guava and pineapple paste as well as touches of clover honey, peach blossom and jasmine. The palate is super-intense and richly fruity with a pleasantly fat texture and great freshness, long, toasty finish." (Wine Advocate 2019 - Robert Parker). A Sauternes of this class at this price is already Christmas!

Château Coutet 2008 is the archetype of the estate: a wine with character, perfectly balanced between sweetness and liveliness. Full-bodied, airy and pure, its flavors evolve over the course of the tasting, moving from candied fruit to citrus, roast and exotic fruit. The final bouquet offers a saline touch underpinned by minerality. Juicy and crisp, this 2008 is ready to be enjoyed by the most impatient! In the cellar, it will continue to evolve to the delight of wine-lovers.
