2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"Pale to medium lemon-gold in color, the 2016 Haut Coustet bursts from the glass with bold aromas of green mango, guava, and pineapple paste, along with hints of clover honey, peach blossom, and jasmine. The palate is super intense and richly fruity with a pleasantly oily texture and great freshness, ending with a long, toasty finish.(Wine Advocate 2019 - Robert Parker). Guide Hachette des vins

About wine:
A traditional Sauternes, whose slightly amber-tinged golden yellow color reveals the concentration of the bouquet. It combines aromas of quince, candied fruit, and gingerbread (clove). Despite its generosity and opulence, harmony is preserved on the palate, where you can appreciate the flavors of exotic fruits enhanced by toasted notes. Reserve this wine for the finest cheeses or enjoy it as a dessert in its own right.
About the estate:
Philippe Mercadier spent twenty-five years honing his expertise as manager of Ch. Suduiraut. Today, he brings this experience to bear on his three Sauternes wines, produced with the help of his two sons: Châteaux Haut Coustet, Pechon, and Tuyttens.

About the estate:
Excerpt from the article Terre de Vins November 2021: Mercadier Vineyards, a success story in Sauternes. The Sauternes appellation is undergoing a major transformation, with the aim of offering more accessible and digestible wines without losing any of their wonderful aromatic complexity. This is a path that many winemakers have successfully taken. At a time when some are choosing to diversify their range, Paul and Émilie Mercadier, owners of several châteaux, are focusing solely on Sauternes, out of conviction. All that remained was to convince and sell: this is what the couple did, with some success. What is their recipe?

A wine that is more mellow than sweet, undoubtedly due to its freshness and delicate aromas of exotic fruits. The palate is very well balanced. Very refined and not at all heavy.

An excellent Sauternes with fruit, depth, and a very long finish. The sugar is not overpowering. Unbeatable value for money.

Powerful, round, and voluptuous with flavors of apricot, citrus marmalade, and melon. Good balance between acidity and residual sugars. Long finish with a hint of honey. A lovely Sauternes at an unbeatable price. So why not enjoy it regularly, for example with Roquefort puff pastries on a bed of watercress and walnut kernels.
