Château Relais de la Poste - Cuvée Malbec 2016
15/20
Bettane & Desseauve
89/100
Robert Parker
The 2016 Malbec vintage from Château Relais de la Poste is aged in American oak that has been dried for a long period. It has an appealing nose of blackberry, dark chocolate, and a hint of black pepper that intensifies in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight chewiness on the attack, evolving into a fairly lively mid-palate tinged with white pepper and finer tannins than I expected. The Malbec really comes into its own here, delivering a minty freshness on the finish. Enjoy over the next 5 or 6 years." (Wine Advocate) A sure bet!

Wine rated 15/20 (Very good wine)

About wine:
Very smoky, spicy nose with morello cherry and blackberry aromas. Full-bodied on the palate with rich, generous tannins, vigor, and length. Lots of presence and character.
About the estate:
The property was indeed a coaching inn in the 18th century, but it is only since the beginning of this millennium that it has made a name for itself in the world of wine. Followed by the current specialist in accessible Bordeaux wines, Olivier Dauga, the estate produces fruity and delicious Côtes de Bourg wines, without any rusticity. A cuvée composed of Malbec, a grape variety once widely planted throughout the southwest, and now only found in the Blayais-Bourgeais region, in Cahors (under the name "cot" or "auxerrois") and also... in Argentina.
