Jancis Robinson

"A landmark in the history of the cru with the purchase of the property by Bernard d'Halluin (with Olivier Sèze still at the helm), 2008 was also marked by the success of this wine. Straightforward and pleasing, it blends red fruit and blackcurrant aromas with well-melted vanilla to create an expressive bouquet. On the palate, round, ample and suave, the aromas of the nose are revived, enhanced by notes of undergrowth. A classic and welcome accompaniment to prime rib. (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2012)

Wine rated (2011 guide) 88/100 (Good wine)

Domain rated Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Intense ruby-purple color, very fruity, it exudes the fragrance of sweet currants, intermixed with a touch of incense and damp earth. Plenty of juicy, flavorful fruit and good acidity. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.

Great fruit and lovely woodiness reveal themselves on the nose. Full-bodied and well-fruited on the palate, with fat, smooth tannins. Harmonious oak and good follow-through.

Disappointed! For me, the wine has passed its peak. Agree with Mr Gilles D. on the astringency. Lack of structure.

I really liked the 2009, then adored the 2010, and was even seduced by the charming side of the 2011, but I'm a little more reserved about the 2008. The latter is less pure, less full-bodied, less velvety. It leaves a hint of astringency on the palate.

Velvet and velvet for this haut-médoc of fine tradition. Decanting is recommended to get the most out of this bottle at this stage of its evolution.
